Xiaomi, the chinese company made an int. announced their very first Smartphone that runs the purest version of Android. That’s Android One. And earlier, they launched in Malaysia. I got my hands on the Mi A1 and this is the Unboxing and Initial Impression.

Unboxing

1/5

Gone are those days with the recyclable package with the Mi logo on the top right corner. Now, they’ve added colors to their product package. On the front, we have the Mi A1 Render along with the Mi and Android One logo. On the back of the box, we find the key highlights of the device which I’ll be talking about in a second. As you remove the sleeve, you’ll see the box with a Mi Logo. Once you remove at, the first thing you’ll be greeted with is the phone itself. I got the Black Mi A1. Below the phone, you have another small box that consists of the SIM Ejector tool, Manual, USB C Cable and UK Wall Adapter.

This is possibly the simplest and the cleanest unboxing experience ever. Unlike last time, where you see divided compartments in the box, now it’s a lot more cleaner.

Specification

In terms of specification, this device rocks a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with 4GB RAM. It comes with 64GB Internal Storage that can be expanded via an SD Card. On the front we have a 5.5″ FHD Display and a 5MP Front facing camera. Mi decided to go with a Dual camera setup for their rear facing camera. It comes with a Dual telephoto Setup and boasts a dual 12MP Sensor.

Initial Impression

Taking a closer look at the Mi A1. On the front of the device, you have the usual. The speaker earpiece located up top with the proximity sensor and front facing camera. Followed by the display below and the capacitive touch buttons. On one side, we have the SIM Tray which supports Dual SIM with one of them being a Hybrid slot. On the other side, you have the Volume rockers and power button. Moving on to the rear, you’ll find the dual camera setup with dual tone flash followed by the fingerprint sensor and the Mi CE engraving. Finally, at the bottom of this device, you’ll find the USB C Port and the handy dandy 3.5mm Headphone Jack. You also have an IR Blaster on the top.

The moment when I held it in my hands, it does not feel like the usual Mi device that I’m familiar of. In fact, Mi A1 has a curve body than a boxy shape like the Redmi Note 4 which has the same screen. The bezels on the top and bottom is large whereas on the sides it’s very thin and unnoticeable with the black variant. It weighs in at 165g, same as the Redmi Note 4. The weight is evenly distributed. On the back, the soft touch black finish is beautiful and feels smooth like a baby’s skin. The moment you look at it, people might think that it resembles like a popular Cupertino company. It sure does.
