Last year, we saw the first Gaming Smartphone from Razer and later on, we noticed a bunch of companies making a gaming smartphone. There is one from an infamous Gaming Manufacturer which was rumored to be released at Computex 2018. Well, guess what? It’s here and it’s none other than Asus ROG Phone. This is the company’s first attempt in making a Gaming Smartphone and I have to say – it is on Steroids.

Asus ROG Phone

1/5

The ROG Phone doesn’t share any DNA with the Asus Zenfone Series. It has a metal rails on the sides with a glass slab on both the front and back. On the back, you’ll notice that it has a geometric pattern design with the camera, Flash and the Fingerprint sensor. It also has an RGB Logo which you can customize it via the Aura Software. It sure is a beautiful looking smartphone.

Specification

The Asus ROG Phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Processor and this particular one is clocked at a whopping 2.96Ghz. Making it the world’s fastest Snapdragon 845 Processor. On top of that, you get an Adreno 630 GPU. As for the display, it houses a 6” 18:9 Aspect ratio Full HD+ Display. To add a bit more flare to it, the display packs a 90 Hz Refresh Rate with 1ms pixel response time.

It houses a 4,000 mAh battery, giving you more time to play on the move than staying connected to a cable. It comes with a whopping 8GB RAM and as for the internal storage, you can pick between a 128 or a 512GB. This is by far the craziest configurations ever. As for connectivity, Gaming laptops has this Killer LAN switches and so on. In this case, they took the WiFi module up a notch. It has support for 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and ad with 2X2 MIMO. As for the Bluetooth, it comes with v5.0.

We have seen companies removing headphone jacks lately – even the Razer Phone doesn’t have one. The ROG Phone on the other hand – it’s just bonkers. At the bottom, it has a USB C port with QC enabled and has a 3.5mm jack. On the side, it has a custom USB-C port with support for Asus HyperCharge.

On the front, it has a dual stereo speaker setup – so expect the whole gaming experience to be immersive. It comes with a DTS Headphone 7.1 and Qualcomm aptX Support for Bluetooth audio capabilities. We know, for a gaming smartphone – it’s all about the performance but it does have cameras on it. On the front, the device houses an 8MP Selfie camera whereas on the back, the device has a dual camera setup. The primary sensor is a 12MP and the Secondary sensor is a 8MP Wide angle sensor.

Docks and Peripherals

For a gaming smartphone, it sure does have endless options. They have three different accessories – a TwinView Dock, Mobile Desktop Dock and a Gamevice controller.

1/3

The TwinView Dock looks like a Nintendo 3DS on steroids. Once you get the phone docked, there’s another 6” AMOLED Display at the bottom which let’s you do two different tasks independently. It also has an enhanced cooling system with a 6000 mAh extended battery pack in it.

The Mobile Deskop Dock has all the ports you would find on a Desktop. It has 4 Full Size USB and a USB C port. Along with that, there’s one HDMI, 2 DisplayPort, Headphone and Microphone Jack, SD and a MicroSD Card slot and a Gigabit Ethernet Port. It has the capability to output to an external 4K UHD monitor.

The Gamevice controller and the WiGig Dock is for those who’d want to play their favorite game titles on a bigger screen wirelessly. The Gamevice Controller attaches to the smartphone and it connects to the WiGig Dock, where it streams the whole game with the help of a 60GHz 802.11ad WiFi.

Availability

According to Asus, they said that – they have no news or update on releasing it to other countries but for now – we know that the Republic of Gamers Phone or ROG Phone is real and it’s definitely happening sometime in Q3 of 2018. Expect it to be pricey with such specification.
