Cons

  • Uses Micro USB for Charging

Nintendo Switch is without a doubt an interesting console to ever exist – for players who like single player and even multiplayer titles as well. With that said, their multiplayer titles are pretty darn good – and with more joy-cons, the party only gets better. But what doesn’t get better is charging these extra joy-cons. So, to solve this issue – it’s a good option to get a charger. We reached out to HyperX and got the Chargeplay Quad to see if it’s any better and here’s our opinion on it.

Unboxing

Features

The Chargeplay Quad is a relatively simple and straightforward product. It’s a charging dock meant for the Nintendo Switch Joy-cons. Just like the name suggest, it can charge up to 4 Joy-cons – as you can see the 4 slots on it. The Charging dock has a white-light indicator on the top and it helps in indicating the charging status – if it’s blinking, it means it’s charging. If the white light stays on, it’s charged. The charging dock connects via a Micro USB cable to a Full size USB – to connect it to your dock for easy usage.

Experience

Setting up the Chargeplay Quad is extremely simple and anyone can get it up and running in just a matter of seconds. Once you do that, all you have to do is slide the Joy-cons into the respective slots and voila, it starts charging. Personally, I like the fact that the Joy-con dock has a really nice heft to it, making it a solid base. The rubber bottom is grippy enough to hold on to any surface as well. The choice of material is good and there is not a single issue with it. The small footprint of the Joy-con makes it extremely easy to bring around and get the juice up as you are taking a break from your game.

One of the things I wished the Chargeplay Quad went with – instead of a Micro USB port, they could have gone for a USB-C which would have blend into the whole ecosystem, considering the fact that the Nintendo accessories incorporate USB-C Standard really well. If there’s ever a second generation the Chargeplay Quad, I’d love to see a USB-C version. Sliding the Joy-cons into the Chargeplay is relatively simple and secure because it has a clip like holder where you can slide it and it will stay in with a really nice fit.

There’s a reason why we wanted to take a closer look at this. In the recent time, there are so many Nintendo Switch Charging Accessories that’s sprouting out at extremely unbelievable prices – making it too good to be true too. In fact, there are incidents where the charger has burning issues and so much more – but not with the Chargeplay Quad and here’s why:

1 – The HyperX ChargePlay Quad is Nintendo Official Certified

One of the things you must look into, is if it’s certified. In this case the Chargeplay Quad is Officially Certified and you don’t have to worry about a single thing – be it any charging issues over the time.

2 – HyperX incorporated TUVRheinland Certification

Quality Control and a Certification shows that how much a product is reliable and it is another way of identifying that it’s an officially licensed and approved product. HyperX has TUV Reinland Certification where they have performed multiple test to see if the product works across various region really well and the product is safe enough for consumers to get it. The HyperX Chargeplay Quad has that.

Conclusion

As much as cheaper alternatives are always available out there, doesn’t mean that they are safest options. It’s better to spend a little extra to keep your accessories safe and not worry about taking extra money to replace the whole thing instead. The HyperX ChargePlay Quad gets our seal of Approval for being a really great Charging Dock for the Joy-cons.

Huge thanks to HyperX for sending us the ChargePlay Quad for making this content happen.
