While we may have been stuck at home for the longest period of time, personally – our work has never stopped, and we have been reviewing a lot of laptops. One of the two interesting laptop we have seen from ASUS are: ExpertBook B9 and the ROG Zephyrus G14. We will talk about the B9 in another article but in this one, we are going to talk about the head turning feature of the Zephyrus G14, the AniMe Matrix.

Zephyrus G14: AniMe Matrix

The Zephyrus G14 isn’t just small and the most powerful laptop we have seen so far – read our review to know how well it performs – but it does have a unique feature that no other laptop has. While RGB is what “kind of” amplifies the whole gaming laptop experience, ROG’s step in making a laptop without RGB but a matrix display on the back of it sure does make it a whole lot interesting if you ask me. The design on the back of the G14 comes in this gorgeous slashed off matte finish on one side and a dotted finish on the other side to let the laptop’s matrix display glow on desks and café, turning peoples head around to see what laptop it is. That said, how exactly the AniMe Matrix work?

How exactly AniMe Matrix work?

Gaming laptop in general depends a lot on the Gaming Center for customization and the ROG Zephyrus G14 has one, the Armoury Crate. This center gives a complete access to the system’s cooling system profile, display color profile and in our case, the one we are looking at – the settings for AniMe Matrix.

The moment you jump into AniMe Matrix – you have a bunch of options and settings on the panel to customize the way you want it to work. On the left side, you have the Animation Panel which has few buttons on the top: Select Image, Maximize/Minimize the size, use second, a slider bar and a toggle to show the overall. On the bottom you have the previous/next, add and delete button. Basically, if you plan to use an image of your own and it doesn’t matter if it’s a picture or a GIF, the matrix display will be able to play it well.

On the top right of the AniMe Matrix Panel, there are 3 options for you to choose from: Animation (Text/Image), Notification, Music, and the settings toggle.

Animation Mode

The animation mode offers quite the handful number of customizability and its more than enough for users to have fun with. The Animation settings gives control on the contrast, brightness, and delay. Secondly you have content library, where there are pre-loaded animations from ROG located in that and finally, Text where you can have up to 3 rows of text with controls on the font and size.

Notification

This is a rather simple feature in my opinion, and I can see that most of the users just might use this after all. You can toggle Mail, Clock, Battery Level and Date – so when there’s a mail, it will show you the mail icon to let you know that there’s a new email. The rest work as you’d think it should.

Audio Mode

The Music mode has pre-installed Visualizations you can choose from to make it work. Just like how previously Aura Sync keyboard uses RGB to change when the music plays, it works the same here. The moment you start playing your favorite beat, the laptop will kick things up with its visualization.

In the settings panel, you can toggle the Anime Matrix display to work even when the lid is closed, and I think that’s pretty cool.

That’s the ROG Zephyrus G14’s AniMe Matrix – a very cool way to make your laptop, yours with just the right customization. I can see myself at meetings with The Adventures of Vesper Logo on the back and say if I want to have a party with some huge speakers, switch it to the Music work to make it lit. Again, our review is live, and you can click here to read more about the G14 in the performance department.

Huge thanks to ASUS Malaysia for gracing us with the ROG Zephyrus G14 for content like these happen here at The Adventures of Vesper. Special Thanks to Bryan for loaning his Nikon D610 for us to make the product shots/clips happen.
