One series of routers from ASUS that completely caught me off guard, happens to be the Asus ExpertWiFi series – which is completely new of course and happens to be an addition to their current lineup of routers, albeit focusing on more business-centric environment with extra Security measures to keep both users and owners safe under the same network. But that said, we wanted to check out their “Business Mesh System” and ASUS Malaysia sure didn’t disappoint. So, here’s our ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh First look and what we think so far.

ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh First Look

Bespoke Design

1/4

The ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh system shares a lot of resemblance to the ASUS ZenWiFi Series. It has a nice shape that does look pretty cool in my opinion. Instead of your normal router shape, the ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh has an “IKEA” container or like a portable air purifier SA(or I’ll leave it up to your imagination) – it blends in very well in any kind of environment with no issues whatsoever. The all-white finish does concern me, especially in the long run if there will be any yellowing – but only time can tell and we will ask ASUS about it and update it here.

Inside the Box

Right out of the box, you do get two units of ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh – one being the master unit and the other one is a supplementary unit which communicates with the main one. The best part about ASUS routers in general, you can get more down the line and add to the existing network with no issues whatsoever.

Both the units have dedicated RJ45 ports and USB 3.0 on the back to set up networking devices despite the router being connected via wireless. Now if you do want a stable experience, you probably would need to have an internet plan from 500Mbps and above (because with our 100Mbps plan, it works but not as optimal as it was when we had 500Mbps).

On top of that, ASUS is probably the only brand to include hot-swappable adapters depending on your region – so, it’s nice to see that they give the versatility a user would require. There’s the DC adapters and even a kit for you to wall mount these mesh routers – so from an ID stand point, it’s thought very well.

Let’s talk about Specifications and Features

Since the ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 Mesh is a Business Mesh System – this has got to be the most decked out business router I have ever seen even compared with the wide range of selections ASUS offers from. And we are solely addressing from the “officially available in Malaysia” standpoint – which is an important key factor.

  • These mesh systems are rated for upto 7800Mbps speeds with support for 160 MHz channels and yes, right out of the box, we are looking at a WiFi 6 802.11ax system with tri-band mesh system.
  • Support for VLAN with the ports on the back and even support for Dual and Backup WAN is an impressive solution where you can use your smartphone as a backup internet provider by connecting via the USB Port as a plug-and-play mechanic.
  • The ExpertWiFi app, which is a new app and exists separately from the other ASUS Router apps – the app offers features like SDN (Self-Defined Network) where you could have a separate profile for separate use including setting up a guest WiFi network, Setup with the help of the Scenario Explorer and of course manage all the routers and mesh at one place.
  • It even comes with site-to-site VPN, AiProtection in partnership with Trend Micro and One Tap Security Scan.
