Sony has finally announced the a9 and it’s now available here in Malaysia. And it’s definitely a beast on the inside. On the paper, it looks wow. When you try it for the first time, it’s no longer wow. Because by the time you realize how fast it is, your mind would have blown into pieces. That’s how fast it is.

Taking a closer look at Sony a9, it packs the world’s first full stacked CMOS sensor, with a resolution of 24.2MP. It can run Blackout -free continuous shooting at up to 20fps for up to 241 RAW and 362 JPEG. People who love to shoot at a silent surrounding don’t really have to worry a lot because now you can do Silent, Vibration-free shooting at speeds up to 1/32,000 sec. It has a  693 point focal plane PDAF with 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per sec, which means snapping moving object and tracking them is fast AF
Well, capturing images on the go with a camera can be challenging but the a9 has an in-body 5 axis image stabilization with 5.0 step shutter speed advantage. To get you going without worrying about your storage, it does not have one but two SD card slots to store the image, where one slot supports UHS-II too. It also packs a new Z battery with approx. 2.2x the capacity of W batteries, for a longer life. And an ethernet port is also found in the camera as well, where you could conveniently transfer images to a specified FTP server at high speeds. Don’t worry, it still has WiFi to transfer your images to your smartphone.


The beautiful part is, putting all this goodness into that small compact body. It features a Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder with approx. 3,686k dots for accuracy and true-to-life detail. The 24.2MP sensor, can handle a diverse range of ISO range of 100-51200 and it’s expandable to 50 – 204800, ensuring optimum image quality with minimum noise at all settings.

The a9 is also a pretty good video camera because it offers 4K recording under the hood. And it can record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps, where you can edit it to 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.
The a9 comes with a variety of accessories, like the Vertical grip, Multi-Battery Adaptor Kit, Grip Extension, Eyepiece Cup and many more to use your a9 the way you like.
The Sony a9 (body only) is now available in Malaysia for RM 21,799. The lens for the a9, like the Super-telephoto Zoom Lens (SEL100400) will go for RM 12,699, Premium Wide Angle Zoom Lens (SEL1635GM) for RM 10,899 and finally the Compact Wide Angle Lens for RM 7,899.

We did have the chance to try out the camera for a while, and I have to say… It is by far the fastest camera i’ve used till date. And the picture it captures, looks beautiful and is filled with detail. Do check it out at their Sony Stores.
