After Motorola’s huge success with the entire Moto Z Series, thanks to its unique and successful Modular feature which I loved, the Z Play successor, Z2 Play is now here in Malaysia. And it looks like Z2 Play has got a lot of things correctly compared with the Z Play.

The Moto Z2 Play packs a upgraded processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 with 2.2GHz and a Adreno 506 GPU. Now, the Z2 Play comes with 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM. The SD Card slot stays with the Z2 Play, so is the dual SIM Slot. It comes with a 5.5” Super AMOLED Full HD display. The fingerprint sensor is now bigger and also supports gestures. And in the battery department, we see a change, this time the device packs a 3000 mAh and has TurboPower support.


On the rear, we have a new Camera sensor. 12MP with 1.4um Dual Autofocus Pixel camera with an aperture of f/1.7. It also features a Laser AF for accurate focus. And on the front, we get a 5MP 1.4um with f/2.2. Unlike the Z Play, this time with the Z2 Play we get dual tone flash not only at the back but also at the front. Features a USB-C Port with USB 3.1 support and yes, it still has the 3.5mm headphone jack.

And probably the most important and exciting feature of the Moto Z2 Play, the MotoMods are here to stay. With the Z2 Play, we get an improved JBL SoundBoost+ mod, a battery pack which now has TurboCharge Support. And the Gamepad too, which is my personal favorite. One thing that really got me excited is that the Z2 Play will also support and work with the MotoMods that was released with the Z and Z Play. Now that, makes the Z2 Play a really great modular smartphone.


The Z2 Play comes in two different colors, one being Lunar Grey and the other one, Fine Gold. The Z Play had a ripple design at the back but with the Z2 Play, you get this smooth, subtle and fine matte finish at the back, which is real nice. Not to forget, it runs Android 7.1.1 out of the box and still sticks to it’s promise to offer the purest Android experience to their consumers.


The Moto Z2 Play will go on sale for RM 1999 and you can get the Moto Z2 Play starting today at Lenovo Authorized Stores and the official Lenovo Store on Lazada.
