After seeing Sony announcing their ultra-compact digital camera at IFA, it has finally landed in Malaysia. Sony RX0 is their new Ultra-Compact camera that packs a punch for a device that tiny form factor. It resembles like an Action Camera but the RX0 is designed in a way to take amazing pictures into places where you can’t bring a conventional camera.
Taking a look the the Sony RX0, it has a 15.3 MP 1.0″ Exmor RS CMOS image sensor. The image is later processed by the BIONZ X processor under the hood. What’s even better is that it has a wide angle ZEISS Tessar T* 24mm F4 fixed lens up on the front. Which means it’ll have the capability to take sharp, higher resolution images both in JPEG and RAW format. It has an Anti-Distortion Shutter up to 1/32000 seconds and it can shoot up to 16 fps.
The moment you lay your eyes on the RX0, you feel like it can take a beat and yes. The RX0 is waterproof upto 10 metres, Shockproof when it’s dropped from 2 metres and Crushproof to 200kgf. It also comes with certain accessories that’ll let you take your RX0 beyond limits. Like their Waterproof housing, which could take you up to 100 metres.
Not only the RX0 can take still images and videos, you can also do some pretty creative videos. It has the power to shoot up to a 1000 fps, 40 times Super Slow Motion videos as well. If you are planning to use the RX0 for production, it’s also possible. With the HDMI output, you can use it to record uncompressed video to an external recorder. The MF Assist and Peaking Functions, will allow you to adjust to your exact requirements. Adding Picture Profile options and S-Log2, is like icing on a cake because you can create what you want.
Using a camera like this, it’s all about the creativity. With that being said, you can use your PlayMemories Mobile App to control upto 5 RX0s. This means you can control the cameras, shoot in various angles or in a tough shooting area as well. If you want more, Sony is offering that too. With the Sony Wireless Radio Commander, (FA-WRC1M) you can control upto 15 RX0s.
Apart from the RX0, Sony has is also offering a wide range of accessories along with the RX0. The VCT-CGR1 Cage for increased system flexibility, MPK-HSR1 Housing to bring your RX0 beyond 10 metres. For further protection, The CPT-R1 Cable Protector, VF-SPR1 Spare Lens Protector, VFA305R1 Filter Adaptor Kit which has a filter adaptor, lens hood and MC protector. And if you want to extend your battery life, you can get NP-BJ1 Rechargeable batteries as well.
RX10 IV and Handycam
Sony also announced two other Digital Imaging products. The Sony RX10 IV is their 4th iteration of their Pro Digital Camera that has a 20.1MP Sensor. The main highlight of this device is the capability to zoom from 24mm up to 600mm. Sony Handycam FDR-AX700 is their latest Video Camcorder that let’s you shoot 4K HDR Videos with it’s 14.2MP Sensor.
Pricing and Availability
The Sony RX0 can be pre-ordered starting this month for RM 3,199. And you’ll also get a Roll bar Mount (VCT-RBM2), Monopod (VCT-AMP1) and a 32GB SD Card for free.* The Sony RX10 IV is also available for pre-order for RM 7,999. You’ll get a VCT-R640 and a 64GB SD Card for free.* Finally, The Sony Handycam FDR-AX700 will retail for RM 7,299.
