Funmaii, a Malaysian cashless convenience store, has opened its second outlet in the country. It first debuted in January 2018 with the opening of its Sunway Nexis store, and its second one is based in Bandar Puteri, Puchong.
Cashless and Unique
In recent years, Malaysia has seen an explosion in the number of convenience stores, ranging from Family Mart, 7-11, 99 Speedmart and more. Now, we have the latest addition to the host of brands: Funmaii. What sets Funmaii apart from the rest is the fact that it uses a cashless retail ecosystem in its stores. Customers can pay for goods with the Funmaii app e-wallet, Mastercard or Visa credit cards.
Funmaii offers the usual daily necessities and more; including imported snacks and beverages from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Dato’ Brian Wee, the Co-founder of Funmaii stated that the brand aims to build a fuss-free and secure cashless ecosystem. It is suited for this day and age, especially with the increasingly hectic lifestyle surrounding people. Dato’ Brian went on to comment on expansion plans, stating that the brand plans to open 30 outlets over the next 12 months. These won’t only be in Malaysia, but throughout Southeast Asia, with an aim of 100 outlets by 2019.
The brand also plans to install 10,000 vending machines in shopping malls throughout Malaysia over the next three years. However, we aren’t sure of what Funmaii will stock these vending machines with, but it will likely be convenience goods.
Also, Funmaii has released an all-in-one app with many functionalities. This includes tracking of expenses, discount vouchers, extra credit, and rebates. It is also secure, as every transaction will need to be authorised with a 6-digit passcode. The app is currently available from the Apple App Store and also the Google Play Store.
