This is not a joke. It just happened. After all the endless rumors and speculation, it’s official. Grab acquires Uber in the South East Asian Market. This is a huge breaking news. Considering the fact that things are going to change. A lot. By now you might be wondering, how is this going to affect the company and the consumer. Well don’t worry because we are going to explain that now.
What is Going to Happen?
Number 1: Farewell to Uber once and for all
Not only Grab is acquiring Uber’s rideshare. They are also acquiring the food delivery business in South East Asia. Don’t worry, it’s not entirely dead because Grab will be integrating it with their transportation and Fintech platform. This means Grab’s leadership in the market will have a huge impact. In a good way of course.
Number 2: Uber Marketshare
Of course, Uber still has a part to play. It has to do with their Market Shares. In exchange to the acquisition, Uber will be receiving a 27.5% stake in Grab, which is reflective of the companies’ respective market shares. Dollar Dollar bill y’all.
Number 3: Goodbye Uber Eats, Hello GrabFood
Like I mentioned earlier, Grab will be overtaking Uber Eats and will now be called as “GrabFood”. Again, this will make GrabFood a major player in Malaysia. Also, here’s another good news. Grab will also be expanding to all the other major Southeast Asian countries by next quarter.
Number 4: DiDi Chuxing and Uber has Grab’s back

Yes, you heard that right people. Grab is now backed the two largest global ride-hailing companies – DiDi Chuxing and Uber, adding to their leading global investor SoftBank. So, get ready to see things skyrocket with Grab.
The acquisition let alone will boost Grab’s profit from their Ride Hailing service and also be the most cost efficient Southeast Asian Platform. Are you excited to see the change or are you bummed out that Uber is no more? Let us know in the comments down below.
Vesper’s Opinion: Well, we are kind of bummed out that Uber is no more. But hey, I hope it’s off to a great start tho. 🙂 Let’s hope for the best.
