Magnus Games Studio has announced that it has entered a worldwide publishing agreement with Digital Bros S.p.A. The agreement signed with the Italian game publisher and distributor, will allow Re:Legend to be marketed through Steam. This will allow the game to reach gamers globally including those in North America, Western Europe, and Asia.

A Made-In-Malaysia Indie Game

Re:Legend first became popular throughout the gaming community when it managed to achieve 99% upvotes on Square Enix Collective. It is a platform which permits creators to post ideas, and also allow gamers to judge the game concepts. With such a high approval achieved, the studio ran a Kickstarter campaign in July 2017, which lasted for a month. It was a total success with $70,000 raised within 24 hours, and the campaign raised 900% of its target. The Kickstarter project made Re:Legend the most crowd-funded game in South East Asia in 2017.

The RPG game draws inspiration from cult-classic games such as Harvest Moon, Monster Rancher and also Stardew Valley. Re:Legend allows gamers to raise magical monsters called Magnus; train in farming and fishing, and also build a village. On top of that, it can be played co-operatively with other players online.

Humble Beginnings

Magnus was first founded in 2015 by brothers DC Gan and Welsonn Gan, which started as a two-man startup. However, the game studio is now run by 20 people and is based at LEVEL UP Inc, an incubator space for games development. LEVEL UP Inc was first started by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to support the games creation industry in Malaysia. Magnus has since come a long way, and has achieved much, including taking home South-East Asia’s Best Rising Star Award at the LEVEL UP KL Games Conference 2017.
