It’s a new day. This time it’s another new e-wallet. Grab Malaysia has unveiled their new GrabPay Mobile Wallet. We all remember the older GrabPay where we register our debit or credit card and use it to pay for our ride. But that wasn’t the end, they have unveiled their new GrabPay Credits which now you can top up and use it for more than just for Ridesharing.
GrabPay Credits
Users can now top-up and spend money or GrabPay Credits from the Grab app itself. This will allow consumers to pay for their rides and even GrabFood. It doesn’t end there. The list goes on. What Grab has done is that – they have partnered up with other merchants where you can pay by scanning the GrabPay QR Code. You can even transfer money to each other with no problem at few steps.
Starting from today, GrabPay will be accepted in more than 500 F&B outlets. They are issuing the GrabPay to 8 major cities to begin with – starting with Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Kuantan.
They have teamed up with some of the popular restaurant chains in Malaysia like TeaLive and TeoChew Chendol. They have also partnered up with Devi’s Corner, KGB Burgers, TedBoy Bakery and the list goes on.
A Beneficial Partnership
They GrabPay doesn’t stop with just the platform. They also announced their key partnership with Maybank. This will allow customers to use GrabPay Credits at places where MayBank Pay is available right now. This will definitely make the whole platform bigger and giving instant access to more merchants around Malaysia. If you are a Maybank user who uses GrabPay, you’ll even enjoy exclusive benefits and rewards as well.
GrabPay has also partnered up with KLIA Ekspres. Starting from July, customers can use GrabPay to pay for their commuters to KLIA, KLIA2 and KL Sentral as well.
A word from Ooi Huey Tyng
The Managing Director of GrabPay Malaysia said the following,
“What’s stopping many in Malaysia from adopting cashless is the perceived lack of safety and convenience. With GrabPay, consumers across Malaysia, regardless of age, can participate in the cashless, digital economy without having to download additional apps. By topping up money on Grab as your everyday app, you can easily track your spend and pay cashless conveniently and safely.”
So, there you have it. Do you think this is a good step towards a cashless society or with a lot of apps right now, it makes it a burden? Let us know in the comments!
