Does anyone remember the last time Oppo, the Chinese manufacturer released a true flagship smartphone? They did. It was the Find 7 but that was in 2014. For the past 5 years, we’ve been seeing a lot of smartphones from them, but then when you look at it closely – it felt like Oppo lost it. It felt like they lost their way along the road, their designs were nothing but a complete clone of the Cupertino Company but with a half-baked software. The pricing on the other hand is unjustifiable. I lost hope in Oppo.
But on the brighter side, there might be hope for this Chinese manufacturer after all. In fact, this is the only device that can save them from being called the Apple of China. It’s the Oppo Find X.
Oppo Find X
The name as it suggests – their true flagship series is finally making its way back in to the big leagues. No more calling a mid-tier phone, their flagship. Oppo went for the name, Find X – to add that Cupertino flair to it. But the more I look at the leaks – it feels like the company is going to take a different route this time.
What we know:
5x Dual Camera Zoom, Periscope Style.
Starting of with their new camera. They announced a new camera technology – 5x Dual Camera Zoom. What this camera does (at least according to them), is that it uses a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The housing for the telephoto lens applies a periscope-style structure, giving the lens sufficient space for a deep zoom with its angle rotated 90 degrees. Honestly, it looks all fancy on the paper but honestly, we can’t tell much but we will talk more once we get the chance to look at it in person.
The Super VOOC is back
Remember back in MWC 2016, Oppo showcased their VOOC fast charging where it allows the smartphone to charge 2500mAh in 15 minutes. That’s bonkers. Does this mean the Oppo Find X comes with a 2500mAh battery? I hope not because considering today’s standards, an average flagship smartphone comes with at least 3000 mAh. I hope they stick with that.
What We Don’t know (Leaks)
What makes a device launch special? The Leak. We came across one too many leaks for the Oppo Find X.
First is the video that aired on CCTV where they accidentally leaked the Find X trailer. If you notice clearly, the camera has a curved arch on the back. Dual camera setup with the flash smack right in the middle. We don’t see any fingerprint sensor, but it could be under the display. It has a glass finish on the back and comes in these two colors – Ruby Red and Blue. What’s shocking – is the fact that the display is nearly bezel less. There’s no notch at all. Wow.
There’s a leaked KV on Twitter where, it says “93.8%!” with a sentence that roughly translates to, “Screen-to-body ratio”. The only phone that broke the 90% screen to body ratio so far is the Vivo Nex. But if the Oppo Find X is true, we might be looking at the second yet a better implementation of the display in a smartphone.
For those Oppo Find fans, the Skylight Notification might make its way back – at least according to this leak.
Finally, we see a screenshot that lists the specification. It shows that the device features the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with the AI Engine. As for the Memory, it has 256GB with 8GB RAM. As for the android version, it shows that the phone runs Android 9.0? What?
Later, we found out that it’s just a fake specs because the twitter account @bang_gogo_ said, “So, who got fooled by this?”.
Despite the leaks, I have to say – the Oppo Find X does sound surprising. I think this phone has more potential in carrying Oppo’s Smartphone legacy than any other smartphones in the market. Can Oppo really seize the Oppo-rtunity? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
