Not too long ago, Asus unveiled two of their new Republic of Gamers Laptop in Computex 2018. Just after few weeks, Asus Malaysia has announced their availability in Malaysia. These two laptops are targeted towards gamers who wants to play FPS and MOBA with the best in class experience.
ASUS ROG Strix Hero II
Let’s start off with the Strix Hero II. Under the hood, it’s powered by the latest Intel Core i7-8750H with 8GB DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded. As for the storage, the laptop rocks a 256GB SSD with a 1TB SSHD. Since it’s a gaming laptop, the Hero II rocks a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM. These are the specification under the hood.
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR II
With the ROG Strix SCAR II, the story is a bit different. It’s still powered by the latest Intel Core i7-8750H but with 16GB DDR4 RAM instead. The Graphics card on the other hand – you get to pick between two different offers – there’s one with a GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM and a GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5 VRAM. It also comes with a 256GB SSD and a 1TB SSHD.
These are the only difference between the two devices.
What does both the Strix Laptop Share?
The Laptop houses a 15.6” IPS-level FHD Panel that has an anti-glare coating on it. Not just that, the display rocks a 144Hz refresh rate with 3ms GTG response time. It also covers 100% of the sRGB Color Gamut. Yes, the display does have this bezeless finish to it.
The keyboard has RGB across four zones with Aura Sync Support and has a 1.8mm travel distance – making it a chiclet keyboard. There is one difference with the keyboard. The ROG Strix Hero II comes with this Translucent Marked QWER Keys. With the ROG Strix SCAR II, it comes with a Translucent key but it’s WASD instead.
Both the laptop rocks 2 x 3.5W Speakers with smart-amplifier technology and an array microphone to launch Cortana or talk to your teammates in game with no issue. As for connectivity, the laptop comes with an 802.11ac 2×2 Wave2 WiFi and support for Bluetooth v5.0.
Their new HyperCool Pro thermal system will provide the laptop with cool air in and makes sure that the temperature is handled properly. It also has an Anti-Dust Cooling system which would force to expel dust particles out of the chassis. It also has three different modes – Silent, Normal and Overboost – to make sure it works just fine and handle the heat very well.
Pricing and Availability
The Asus ROG Strix Hero II will only be available in one configuration (as mentioned above) and it will be sold for RM 6,299. The ROG Strix Scar II on the other hand as two different variant and both will be sold in the Malaysian Market. The 1060 powered Scar II will be sold for RM 6,799 whereas the 1070 variant will go for RM 8,499.
