With MWC 2019 around the corner, it’s time for us to feast on some of the upcoming flagship smartphones from various smartphone manufacturers. One of the brand that’s known to capture headlines for its absolutely absurd price tag with top tier specification is back for a new successor. Xiaomi, the Chinese brand is back at it with their upcoming Mi 9. From the looks of it, it feels like this phone is going to be another hit but before that, what exactly to expect from the brand’s new flagship smartphone – well, that’s why we are here to summarize for you folks.
We obtained our source from the MIUI Forum where they have pretty much posted all the highly anticipated details on the smartphone itself.
Triple Camera Setup: 48MP Primary | 12MP Telephoto | 16MP Ultra Wide

The first thing we saw online is the number of photos of the back of the smartphone. One thing we have noticed is the fact that the Mi 9 features a Triple Camera Setup. Now how exactly the Mi 9 is configured? Well, you are at the right location. The Mi 9 features a 48MP Ultra-Clear sensor as it’s main sensor. They have opted in for Sony IMX586, which now is a ½” large image sensor with a 1.6um 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology that allows 4 times more light. The camera now has an aperture of f/1.75 with 6P Lens configured under the hood. The Mi 9 features a secondary 12MP Telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. It comes with a configuration of f/2.2 with 1.0 um. Finally, it houses a 16MP Ultra Wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and features a field of view of 117 degrees respectively.

To make things interesting, the Mi 9 features Laser Autofocus on top of the usual PDAF and CDAF which we have seen in their predecessors. It now uses a closed-loop Voice Coil Motor which offers faster focusing speeds over a common open loop VCM. The rear camera is covered with a 243mm2 Sapphire Glass to make sure it stays safe from scratches and offers better durability.
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

This is also the first Mi Phone out there to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 which is the latest successor to the 845 which we saw last year. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 comes in an octa-core configuration. The Prime Core is clocked in at 2.84GHz followed by 3 Performance Cores at 2.42GHz and finally, 4 Efficiency Cores clocked in at 1.80 GHz. Looks like nothing is going to stop the Mi 9 from putting up a good show. In fact, the Mi 9 has scored a whopping 387,851 on Antutu v7.2.4. The Kryo 485 architecture offers a 45% increase in performance from the Snapdragon 845 which was announced last year and is considered to be one of the best processors on top tier smartphones.
3 Different Colors

The Mi 9 comes in three different colors and it goes by these names: Lavender Violet, Ocean Blue and Piano Black. Xiaomi used a nano-level laser engraving holographic technology along with dual layer nano-coating to create the colors – Lavender Violet and Ocean Blue to be specific – which makes them far more unique from the rest of the Mi Phones.
The Smaller Details

One of the things that we have noticed so far is the fact that the Mi 9 has a thinner chin on the front – where it is now 40% smaller than the Mi 8. This makes things a lot more interesting as it gives more screen on the front. Another thing we didn’t see on the back is the presence of a fingerprint sensor. Which means that the Mi 9 will sport an in-glass fingerprint sensor under the display. The other things that we aren’t sure is whether the phone will sport the 3D Face Sensor or will we get a waterdrop notch. But from the leaks, it looks like we might get a Waterdrop notch instead. So, we shall see where this goes.
And that’s the details we have collected on the Mi 9. What do you think so far? Is it something that you are excited to get your hands on? We are actually and we cant wait to get our hands on this beautiful smartphone. With that said, stay tuned as we cover the Mi 9 launch as the day comes by. 😊
