After the long wait, Xiaomi Malaysia has finally announced the all-new Redmi Note 9S and it has once again dethroned quite a number of mid-tiers. With that said, there are 9 things to take note about the Redmi Note 9S and we are going to talk about the main changes that the phone has undergone.

Number 1: Display

Xiaomi has ditched the notch for an Punch hole-style display which they call it the Tiny DotDisplay. The display comes in at 6.67” Full HD Resolution with a 91% screen-to-body ratio and another thing to note is that the display comes in a 20:9 aspect ratio, making it longer than its predecessor. Other than that, it’s covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, has HDR10 Support and TUV Rheinland Low Bluelight certification.

Number 2: The Color and the Design

It’s no surprise that the Redmi Note has always been quite the looker. With that said, the phone has a symmetrical design – with a 3D Curved rear glass and also covered in Corning Gorilla Glass. It comes in three different colors: Aurora Blue, Glacier White and Interstellar Grey.

Number 3: Powered by Snapdragon 720G

The Redmi Note 9S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G with a 8nm process. It comes in at a clock speed of 2.3GHz. The processor is said to offer 40% CPU Performance in Single core task, an 16% increase in Multi core performance, a whooping 115% on AI Performance and finally a 14% increase in GPU Performance. It comes with two different storage and RAM configuration: a 4GB RAM + 64GB and 6GB RAM + 128GB respectively. Dont worry as you will be able to upgrade your storage with the help of a MicroSD Card upto 512GB.

Number 4: A Huge 5020 mAh Battery

Xiaomi has managed to keep the phone as thin as 8.8mm and still cram in a 5020mAh battery under the hood. That said, the phone still supports a 18W Fast Charging capabilities.

To make it easier on consumers end, they have also included a 22.5W Fast Charger in the box.

Number 5: Quad Camera Setup

The Redmi Note 9S jumps on to the Quad Camera bandwagon. It features the following sensors:

  • 8MP, f/2.2 119 Degree Ultra Wide Angle Camera
  • 48MP Primary Camera with an aperture of f/1.79
  • 5MP Macro Sensor
  • 2MP Depth Sensor

 

On the front, it houses a 16MP Selfie shooter which is capable of features such as AI Portraits, Panorama Selfie, Palm Shutter and even AI Scene Detection.

Number 6: Side Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

The Redmi Note 9S happens to be the first phone from Xiaomi to house a side-mounted fingerprint sensor combining with the power button for quick and secure access.

Number 7: Better Speakers

They have improved the speakers by making it 30% louder and it now even offers 80% more in bass for that depth and better sounding capabilities.

Number 8: Headphone Jack, USB-C and IR Remote

The Redmi Note 9S decides to retain the Headphone Jack, include an IR Remote and have USB-C port to comply with users needs and futureproofing.

Number 9: Solid Build Quality

The phone is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass both on the front and the back to make it safe from scratches. It doesn’t end there. The phone is resistant to splashes and spills, all thanks to the nano coating which is now present on the new Redmi Note 9S.

Pricing and Availability

The Redmi Note 9S will be going on sale in 2 different variants: The 4GB + 64GB will go on for RM 799 whereas the 6GB + 128GB will go for RM 899. The lower variant will be sold exclusively on Lazada and Shopee. In conjunction to Lazada’s 8th Anniversary campaign, there will be a limited time offer where customers will be able to purchase the 4GB Variant for just RM 699 with a RM100 discount. The 6GB Variant will be available through all channels: Mi Stores as well, starting 7th April.
