ASUS has been one of those few brands that isn’t afraid to try something new in their laptop segment. In fact, when you look at both their consumer and gaming side of things, there’s always something exciting to take a look at – one good example will be Mothership from Republic of Gamers and the Zenbook Duo from the Consumer laptop. This time, they have done it yet again. If you wanted a gaming laptop with dual display – their all-new ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo is going to turn your heads – and we got to take a closer look at it.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15

The ROG Zephyrus Duo is definitely a gaming laptop of theirs that’s heavily inspired by the ASUS Zenbook Duo which we reviewed a while back. That said, there are little tweaks to make it a lot more suited for gamers. Starting with the displays, it has a dual display setup – with the huge 14” where you can pick between a 300Hz/3ms Display with G-Sync or a 4K Adobe RGB Screen, but fret not as both the displays are Pantone Validated.

The secondary display is a 14” Touch screen display. Unlike the Zenbook Duo where it stays flat, the Zephyrus Duo’s second display elevates at an angle for better viewing experience. They are still calling it the ScreenPad. That said, their whole idea for the ROG ScreenPad is to use for gaming purposes. They have partnered up with XSplit to have streaming features and other features like Task Groups, Quick Keys and Exclusive gaming features we can’t tell yet but with specific games.

The audio on ROG laptops have been superior for the longest I can remember, and the new Zephyrus Duo has an ESS Sabre DAC for Hi Res Audio. Let’s talk about the specification – its going to make you turned on. It’s powered by the latest Intel Core-i9 10980HK Processor with 8 Cores and 16 Threads coupled with the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super with ROG Boost. For such specification, requires good thermal – so, this is another reason why the display is elevated. Their AAS Plus is said to improve the thermals by offering 30% more air flow for better temperatures and less noise. To top it off, they partnered up with Thermal Grizzly and replaced the conventional thermal paste with the new Liquid Metal Compound which reduces by up to 8 degrees.

Other than that, we have 16GB DDR4 RAM which uses a SODIMM Slot and supports up to 32GB. As for the storage, they have included 2 M.2 Slot and it can be used for RAID 0. Finally, they have included an 90Wh battery to make the laptop last longer – which we can only confirm when we review it.
Opinion

By now, you should all know how ASUS and Republic of Gamers never failed to amaze me with their edgy products. It’s good to know that the gaming laptops are evolving. Having a dual screen setup at our desk is a luxury and now the fact that being able to bring it on the move is impressive. The ROG Zephyrus Duo is definitely one laptop I cannot wait to get my hands on for review because as a content creator and a gamer myself, it would be awesome to see how far this laptop can go. Although its weird because there’s no webcam to be seen – Ah well, we will figure that out later.
We have no words on the pricing and the availability, but you bet its definitely coming to Malaysia soon. That said, we will update you on the pricing and availability in the coming days.
Huge thanks to ASUS Malaysia and Republic of Gamers for inviting us to take a closer look at this beast of a laptop. That said, ROG unveiled a slew of other products too – check em out by clicking here.
