The Importance of Staying Digitally Connected While Physically Apart

Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, has recently published data that reveals 66% of Malaysian youth are keeping in touch with friends and family. Also, 36% of youths are keeping up with the situation and news during these pressing times. The top concern of Malaysian Snapchatters happen to be their family, with 72% responding so. Meanwhile, 59% are more concerned about their own health.

When it comes to information on health and safety, 64% of respondents believe they have enough information to stay safe, while 41% want more information. This is in regards to the steps they should take if they think they are infected with Covid-19. On top of that, 31% believe that there should be additional information on how to deal with stress and anxiety.

When it comes to using Snapchat, 66% have been using the social platform to keep in touch with relatives and friends. With the majority of Malaysian Snapchatters being youths, it is no surprise that most are students. That being said, 64% are concerned regarding how their studies will be affected, and 52% would like more study and work from home tips. This is in order to keep their lives on track without any major disruptions.

Ways To Stay Calm During The MCO

Consultant Child Psychologist, Ms. Kaytana Azman has a few ways to stay calm. She also encourages the use of technology to stay connected with loved ones. This also helps stem the feelings of self-isolation. Ms. Azman went on to say that one of the biggest contributing factors to feelings of distress is the fact quarantining and isolating yourself reduces ones ability to connect and engage with people. The best way to counteract that fear is to use social platforms to spread positivity.
