Back when the first MateBook X Pro was launched in 2018 featuring the first FullView Display, Huawei made waves with the notebook with it being widely accepted as a well-built machine packing excellent specifications. Huawei launches the 2020 version of the much-awaited MateBook X Pro, MateBook 13, MateBook D 14 and MateBook D 15 today as to refresh their notebook line-up with the latest hardware.
MateBook X Pro
Built from the ground up to be a flagship laptop for business professionals and content creators, the MateBook X Pro packs top-of-the-line specifications with a design to match. The 13.9” LTPS panel supports up to a touch-enabled 3K resolution with an aspect ratio of 3:2 and a 91% screen-to-body ratio, clearly depicting its orientation towards productivity and content creation rather than the conventional widescreens on mainstream laptops.
One of the greatest strengths of the last generation MateBook X Pro was the excellent built quality. Clearly gunning for the position of built quality king, the MateBook X Pro features a CNC machined metallic unibody with a premium sandblasted finish for a sturdy yet premium and smooth feel in the hands, while the 14.6mm thickness and 1.33kg weight makes it ideal for productivity on the go.
Not willing to compromise on performance, the MateBook X Pro comes packing the latest 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10710U 4-core CPU with Hyperthreading and 16GB of RAM to ensure a smooth notebook experience. A NVIDIA GeForce MX250 GPU with 2GB GDDR5 video memory provides enough graphical grunt for everything from graphical editing to mass media consumption.
For the ultimate multimedia experience, the MateBook X Pro features quad speaker array for an outstanding sound experience be it in the comforts of your home or in the crowds of business meetings. Four microphones integrated into the computer promises to deliver crisp audio for video conferencing and long-distance listening of up to 4 metres, making this the ultimate machine for presentations and professional work.
For those who wish for performance and design but not needing the absolute best, the MateBook 13 is a good compromise with still-great specs but a clear downgrade from the flagship MateBook X Pro. First thing one will notice is the change to a 2K FullView Display, although still packing mutli-touch functionality and an impressive 88% screen-to-body ratio to reduce its footprint for improved portability.
Being more affordable than the top-tier X Pro doesn’t mean the MateBook 13 compromises on design, with the laptop sporting a metallic and minimalist design with smoothly curved edges and a 1.3kg weight, making it ideal for portability. Also included is a Fingerprint Power Button to wake up the laptop rapidly without the need to enter the password or rescan their fingerprint upon waking up the computer.
MateBook D Series
Built to be a great companion for the younger generation, the MateBook D 14 and D 15 both features the fundamentals of HUAWEI’s PC products, namely aesthetic design, innovative technology and intelligent experience. Both models come with a metal chassis that exudes elegance and premium. The D 14 comes in at 15.9mm and weighs 1.38kg, while the larger D 15 measures 16.9mm and weighs 1.62kg for portability.
The HUAWEI FullView Display found on these laptops feature ultra-thin bezels and an outstanding 84% screen-to-body ratio on the D 14 and 87% screen-to-body ratio on the D 15. A recessed camera helps to keep the footprint of the laptops down and provide greater security at the same time. The screens are TÜV Rheinland certified for low blue light emissions for better eye care.
Both laptops from the D series feature AMD’s Ryzen line-up of mobile CPUs with integrated Radeon Vega graphics for robust daily performance. The D 14 comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U quad-core processor clocked at 2.1 GHz with a boost to 3.7 GHz and a Radeon Vega 8 Graphics, while the D 15 has an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz that boosts to 4.0 GHz paired with a Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics. Featuring the Fingerprint Power Button, users can wake up the computer and get logged in without the hassle of a password.
