Responding to the government’s call for support towards Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Visa introduces Where You Shop Matters, an initiative to encourage consumer expenses at local businesses in alignment with the “Buy Malaysian Products Campaign” launched last month and the “Cuti-Cuti Malaysia” campaign by the Malaysian Government.

Supporting SMEs

According to Ng Kong Boon, Visa’s Country Manager for Visa Malaysia, the Where You Shop Matters initiative was designed to rally local consumers in supporting SMEs by providing a solution in adapting to the shift in consumer behaviour to favouring eCommerce. The company lays its focus on helping small businesses in establishing, managing and growing online presence through digitalisation of their businesses using a toolkit in conjunction with Visa’s commercial offers.

Move to e-Commerce

A recent study by the company on Malaysian consumers reveals that an approximated half of the population intends to shop online and that 83 percent of Malaysians believe online presence is vital to small businesses. Partnering with eCommerce enablers such as BigCommerce and EasyStore, Visa provides starter packages that includes waived monthly subscriptions for first-time adopters from small businesses and a series of Visa commercial offers. Local brands will also be featured on Visa’s own website to encourage consumption of local goods.

Visa Partners

SiteGiant’s Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Lim, believes that SMEs will stand a better chance at transiting into the eCommerce industry and ultimately accelerate digitalisation in Malaysia. EasyStore and Storehub also expressed their willingness and readiness in aiding local businesses in embracing digital transformation to not only sell locally but also internationally.
