Zhiyun entered the gimbal scene four years ago and quickly established itself as a capable player in the market with quality mobile and camera gimbals that are functionally impressive yet not wallet breaking. With the widely acclaimed CRANE 2 series being a global success, the company looks to follow-up on that with the CRANE 2S with improved algorithms for better reliability and performance.

Robust and Safe

Incorporating improved motors, the CRANE 2S is capable of handling larger video-centric cameras such as the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6K and Panasonic S1H with ease. The FlexMount System simplifies the setup process while employing a double safety mechanism to ensure the camera is secured properly. The handle of the CRANE 2S is made out of carbon fibre to make sure it is lightweight yet sturdy enough for the heavier gear.

A brand new axis locking mechanism makes its debut on the CRANE 2S which, when engaged, keeps the axis absolutely still to ensure the attached camera gear is free from any swings and sways that potentiate damage. The TransMount ecosystem allows videographers to switch between accessories such as monopods, dual handles and more that are also built to withstand weight and wear.

Performant and Efficient

The CRANE 2S comes packing the new generation 9th Instune Algorithm that, in combination with the optimised motors, produces smooth and reliable performance. A built-in focus control wheel and serve follow focus motor allows for precise controls, while the 6 gimbal modes ensures buttery smooth motion from simple pans to lock and follow. There are even cinematic effects such as Panorama and Long Exposure Timelapse supported.

A new 0.96” OLED screen provides a wider view for easier navigation through the menu and switching between modes. Multiple mounting options are also included to boost efficiency: a ¼” screw hole on the back of the quick release base plate; two ¼” screw holes with a crown gear; and a 3/8” screw hole on the gimbal. The quick release mount features a safety knob on the tilt axis to allow users to switch to vertical shooting without using additional accessories. Powering all is a trio of removable 18650 Li-ion batteries with a theoretical runtime of 12 hours, and can be extended further with backup batteries.
