DJI expands on its critically acclaimed DJI Ronin series of camera gimbals targeting filmmakers and professional content creators with the new DJI RS 2 and the DJI RSC 2. Both of the new 3-axis camera gimbals are designed to meet the needs of different creators with different sets of gear, while still delivering on the demands for robustness and versatility.

DJI RS 2

Designed with feedback from professional gimbal operators, the DJI RS 2 now shaves off excess weight down to 1.3 kg by using carbon fibre for the vital structural components yet retains its durability with a tested dynamic payload of up to 4.5 kg. Despite the impressive payload for the single-handed gimbal, the RS 2 still offers up to 12 hours of battery life which can be topped up via a quick-charge function that offers 2 hours of battery life with a 15-minute charge.

Incorporating the newly optimised Titan Stabilisation Algorithm, the RS 2 reduces need for manual control while smoothing out user movement and optimising the gimbal angulations. In case the need arises, a new SuperSmooth mode is included and designed to be capable of compensating for longer lenses of up to 100mm in terms of focal length. DJI says that the RS 2 now not only is capable of carrying heavier equipment but also compensating for unwanted movements in an ultra-smooth manner.

Other than the above, the RS 2 also comes with the usual suite of features including axes locks for transportation and customised balancing; dual-layer camera mounting plate compatible with both Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto standards; fine-tune balancing knob; a built-in 1.4” colour touchscreen that displays camera data, gimbal settings or a live camera feed as well as acting as the interface for controling multiple smart shooting modes and ActiveTrack. A built-in front dial allows for focus controls and works in tandem with the DJI Focus Wheel on the RSA port for two-channel focus and zoom.

DJI RSC 2

Now with a completely redesigned and portable folding design, the DJI RSC 2 is easier to haul without additional weight and can be used in different creative ways such as vertical filming without additional accessories and a new Briefcase Mode which allows the main gimbal arm to be loosened for creative shooting angles. The folding mechanism allows the DJI RSC 2 to be downsized to just a footprint the size of a sheet of A5 paper, while also weighing only 1.2 kg.

Most of the features of the RS 2 also makes its way into the RSC 2, with the same Titan Stabilisation Algorithm, axes locks and dual-layer camera mounting plate making their appearance. The DJI RSC 2 still boasts a maximum payload of 3 kg despite its smaller size and is designed to work with mirrorless camera systems. A 1” built-in OLED screen is capable of displaying camera data and allows for direct adjustment of camera settings.

Ronin App & Accessories

Both the DJI RS 2 and RSC 2 are designed to be capable of expansions in terms of their functions through the intelligent use of a wide variety of accessories including a cheese plate, Focus Wheel, 3D Focus System, Twist Grip Dual Handle and RavenEye Image Transmission System to name a few. The RavenEye Image Transmission System allows for remote operations of up to 200 metres away with a low-latency video feed at 1080p/30fps with ActiveTrack 3.0 enabled on the gimbals. The Ronin app also comes with manual controls and creative modes to help capture outstanding content.
