What happens when one of the design industry’s greatest, responsible for countless pieces of art that stood the test of time and aesthetics, and one of the most prominent computing solutions company, that have time and again churned out technological feats that withstood enough the toughest of demands from professionals, come together and form a new collaboration that is bound to make a statement in both the world of design and technology? Porsche Design and Acer have a simple answer to that: the Porsche Design Acer Book RS.
Porsche Design Acer Book RS
Striving for uniqueness in appearance and absolute state-of-the-art technologies, the first-born of the collaboration between Porsche Design and Acer is a mobile computing marvel in the form of a notebook with a purist aesthetic housing the latest and greatest that the technological world has to offer. The Porsche Design Acer Book RS was stencilled with the goal for a notebook that would fit the needs of professionals and looks that is minimalistic enough to blend in perfectly within any environment.
Peer at the Porsche Design Acer Book RS and one will be mesmerised by the all-metal chassis with a sprinkle of motorsport influence in the form of a carbon fibre cover for the top lid, chosen as a homage to decades of motorsport design that pursues lightweight, strength and extreme performance. The diamond-cut CNC-machined chassis contrasts with the carbon fibre cover that is connected to the lower half by a unibody hinge that elevates the notebook ever so slightly when opened to improve cooling and typing ergonomics.
The meticulously designed notebook weighs in at just 1.25 kilograms with a height of merely 15.99mm when closed for the ultimate portability with no compromises made in terms of materials. For those who seek productivity on the go, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS comes with a backlit keyboard that is comfortable to type on even at night and a touchpad with a glass surface for the precise control and multi-gesture support for an intuitive multi-tasking experience.
Being in charge of the computing part of the notebook, Acer spared no effort on sourcing only the best components that would go well with the notebook. For those who settle for nothing less than bleeding edge, the notebook was also co-engineered with Intel to bring the latest 11th Generation Intel Core mobile processors with Intel Evo platform verification for consistency in battery responsiveness, instant wake, real-world battery life and fast charging.
Housed within the top half of the notebook is a 14-inch Full High-Definition screen featuring In-Plane Switching technologies and support for 100% of the sRGB colour gamut, all covered with a layer of Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass. Powering the 14-inch touchscreen is a choice between the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics or an optional discrete graphics processing unit from NVIDIA in the form of the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 chosen for its low power consumption and great graphical performance.
Complementing the option of up to an Intel Core i7 processor is the included 16 GBs of DDR4 Random Access Memory that ensures smooth operation and memory enough for multitasking. A dual copper heat pipe system was chosen for the cooling of the notebook so it can power through the 17 hours of rated battery life without causing discomfort. The notebook also includes dual-band Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+), a multitude of ports including USB-C, Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2, fingerprint login with Windows Hello as well as smart features such as Modern Standby & Wake on Voice for a refined user experience.
Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS
Another offspring of the collaboration is the Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS, designed as the perfect companion for the Porsche Design Acer Book RS. Made from ECCO PALERMO XA Leather, the travel pouch is not only pleasant to the touch but also glistens with a subtle shine. The pouch can be magnetically attached to a notebook sleeve made from 1680D fabric that is water repellent and protects against scratches as well as the expected wear-and-tear from constant transporting. The detachable lid of the notebook sleeve can also double as a mousepad for the Porsche Design Acer Mouse RS that has a hint of character with the carbon fibre-reinforced left-mouse button and bottom cover, all the while offering wireless connectivity through Bluetooth.
