If you read our review on the Sony WF-1000XM3, you would have seen how much we loved those true wireless earbuds for being in a class of its own and giving every contender in the price bracket a run for its money. In fact, if you ask us – we wouldn’t give it up for anything else. But there is one now that we would let it go for and that’s the successor – Sony WF-1000XM4 – and its now here in Malaysia for pre-orders and we… pre-ordered one.
Sony WF-1000XM4 Truly Wireless Earphones
The WF-1000XM4 is the successor to the XM3s which was announced in late 2019. The previous generation shared a pretty common ground with the WH-1000XM3 (which I personally own too), but the new XM4s have been revamped from the ground up for better experience, better set of features, well, to put it simply – better everything.
These new True Wireless Earbuds feature the newly evolved Digital Noise Cancelling with its all-new Integrated Processor V1. Unlike the Sony QN1e chip, the V1 houses a new Bluetooth System on Chip technology to deliver highest level if ANC and use a lot less power. The dual noise sensor microphone does as what an ANC based earphones should do – that is to function as a feedforward and feedback microphones to give accurate noise cancelling capabilities. One obvious change is the design and they have reconstructed the 6mm driver with a 20% increase in magnet volume for better precision. The tips to go along with your earbuds matter too – and in this case, it comes with a Noise Isolation Earbud Tips for better fit.
As always, sound quality is important and its quite the priority with the WF-1000XM4. It now supports High Resolution Audio Wireless, which was lacking in the previous generation, all possible to LDAC – Sony’s audio coding tech. Not just that, these earbuds does DSEE Extreme – where it upscales compressed digital files in real time to give the best experience possible.
On top of those, we get some nifty features which we have seen with the WH-1000XM4s brought down to the WF-1000XM4: such as Speak-to-chat, where the moment you start talking, the earbuds automatically pause the music and lets the ambient sound in to have a conversation. Quick Attention mode is back on the XM4s and the Adaptive Sound Control does the usual, detecting your environment to give a tailored experience to go along with it. It’s now IPX4 certified too!
The case of the WF-1000XM4 is now a lot compact but don’t worry because the battery life is still great – with full 8 hours of use and an extra 16 hours battery in the case, rounding off to 24 hours with of battery life.
Pricing and Availability
The Sony WF-1000XM4 goes for sale on mid-July 2021 for RM 1099 and if you want to get your hands on one, consumers can pre order from now until 15th July to receive a Qi Compatible Wireless Charging Pad worth RM 339. We really did pre order ours already, so why not get yours?
