After months of leaks and speculations, Samsung has finally lifted the lid off of their next-gen foldable devices, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 at this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 comes with a lot of improvements over the old generation namely the addition of IPX8 water resistance, Armor Resistance body and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It’s also lighter and thinner than the Z Fold2.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 also features a new flexible PET protective coating and improved display panel layers, giving in an 80% more durable Main Screen than previous models.
Among other features touted by the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is a new 4MP under-screen selfie camera, tucked away under the device’s 7.6-inch Infinity Flex Display.
The display also features Eco display technology which results in a 20% brighter screen but with less energy consumption. Super Smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate is now on both the Main and Cover Screens of the Z Fold3.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 also comes with S-Pen support which can be used on the device’s Main Screen for jotting down notes or to utilise other multitasking features.
There are two types of S Pen for the Z Fold3: S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. Both have a specifically developed retractable Pro tip with force limit technology to safeguard the Z Fold3’s Main Screen while using the S Pen.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 also comes with a slew of multitasking features including the Flex mode, Multi-Active Window, App Pair and Taskbar.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 include a rear triple camera setup that includes a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, a 12MP Wide0angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. The camera also features dual OIS, 0.5x out and 2x in optical zoom.
You will also find a 10MP selfie camera on the front cover of the device as well as the previously mentioned 4MP under-display selfie camera.
As for the internals, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 12GB RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There’s also a 4,000mAh dual battery with 25W fast charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 will come in three different colour variants that include Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 also comes with the improvements made on the Galaxy Z Fold3 namely the IPX8 water resistance, Armor Resistance body, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, PET coating and improved display panel layers.
Another major difference between the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 compared to the previous generation is the Super AMOLED Cover Screen. It is now four times larger than the original Z Flip and measures 1.9-inches.
You can now check your notifications, keep track of your daily schedule, check the weather, use widgets, and access Samsung Pay from the Cover Screen.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 also features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The new Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos ensures an immersive viewing experience in the palm of your hands.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 also comes with a dual-camera setup at the back that includes a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera and a 12MP Wide-angle Camera. As for the front, you’ll find a 10MP selfie camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 also comes with similar multitasking abilities as its big brother with the Flex Mode Panel. This feature allows for more options when viewing videos with the Z Flip3 partially folded.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 also comes with a Snapdragon 888 SoC under the hood along with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. There’s also a 3,300mAh dual battery with 15W fast charging.
There are seven colour variants of the Z Flip3 available: Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black as well as Gray, Pink, and White that are exclusively available through Samsung’s website.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 price and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 will retail for USD1,799 while the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 will retail for USD999. Samsung has yet to reveal the retail prices of either device for other regions but we imagine that will come very soon.
