Astro said today that it will continue to collect the top streaming services while also refreshing its linear channels in the Family, Movies, Variety, and Learning packs, as well as Sports.

New channels join the Astro family

Beginning on September 15, 2021, the new linear channels will include HBO Family, HBO Hits, SHOWCASE MOVIES, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Earth, Paramount Network, Lifetime, and PRIMEtime, as well as new sports channels Astro Arena 2, Astro SuperSport 5, and SPOTV.

Furthermore, beginning in mid-October, On Demand connected subscribers can expect two new BBC offerings, BBC First and BBC Brit, for more premium British dramas and entertainment shows.

These new options come at an opportune time since Disney recently stated that it will discontinue certain linear channels in the region as part of its drive to push its streaming services instead.

As a result of this global shift, all regional Southeast Asian partners, including Astro, will stop broadcasting the following Disney-owned linear channels after September 30, 2021: FOX, FOX Life, FX, FOX Movies, FOX Action Movies, FOX Family Movies, FOX Sports, FOX Sports 2, FOX Sports 3, and Nat Geo People.

Furthermore, as part of the broadcaster’s efforts to update material for its English entertainment division, both the Discovery Science and Hello channels will discontinue broadcasting after September 30th.

The additional channels will be available on TV and on-demand beginning at 12 AM on September 15, 2021. Please visit the Astro website for additional details.
