As part of the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable practices in the digital commerce ecosystem, Lazada introduces the LazEarth campaign.
Given that Southeast Asia creates an estimated 31 million tonnes of plastic garbage each year, and that 91% of customers are concerned about plastic waste issues in the region, the campaign will initially focus on plastic waste reduction in products and packaging.
Lazada beating plastic waste with the LazEarth campaign
Lazada will collaborate with LazMall brands and partners to make eco-friendly products more visible and accessible to consumers during the Lazearth campaign. Lazada will showcase more than 70 brands and 5,000 items, primarily from the fashion and FMCG product categories, that are created, packed, or shipped with less or better plastics.
From 22nd to 23rd April, Malaysians can shop green by searching the Lazada mobile app for participating sellers and brands that have committed to minimising the use of single-use plastics, reducing the use of plastic in their products and product packaging, and using better plastic (made with recycled plastic) as a replacement.
Through its Fulfilment by Lazada (FBL) service for collaborating firms, Lazada has been supplying greener shipments manufactured from alternative sustainable packaging materials since 2021. Instead of plastic fillers, the green parcels employ FSC-certified carton boxes filled with recycled shredded paper.
In addition to tackling plastic waste with the LazEarth campaign, Lazada has established collaborations and social projects aimed at establishing a sustainable digital commerce environment in Southeast Asia.
In Malaysia, Lazada collaborated with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) on the “Onboarding of Agrofood Products on eCommerce Platform” programme to digitalize local farmers. This gives farmers a direct conduit to advertise their crops online for a higher price, while customers can buy them at lower prices.
Furthermore, in collaboration with government ministries and public universities, Lazada launched LazEmpower and Lazada4Youth to promote female entrepreneurs from underserved communities and youths, respectively.
The programmes want to pique their interest in beginning or growing their enterprises on an eCommerce platform like Lazada, as well as to provide training in the necessary skills, practical tools, and other resources to succeed online.
