On 29th April, Wizards of the Coast will release Streets of New Capenna, the latest set for Magic: The Gathering.

Set in the brand-new Art Deco noir metropolis of New Capenna (#MTGCapenna), the series revolves around five distinct crime families battling for control of the city. Streets of New Capenna comprises 281 cards and will be released on tabletop.

Players in selected Southeast Asian (SEA) nations will be able to obtain exclusive Family Treasure Tokens for Streets of New Capenna for the first time.

Six designs of the Treasure Tokens, illustrated by regional artists and with a limited single print run, are available with the purchase of a collector booster box, while supplies last, at participating WPN stores (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines) and online (Singapore only).

What is Streets of New Capenna about?

New Capenna, a city built by angels and ruled by devils, hides a crooked underbelly beneath its expensive festivities and sophisticated citizens. Five scheming syndicates compete for control of the supply of “Halo,” a rare substance prized for its material beauty and magical-boosting ability.

But, as a larger menace invades New Capenna, it’s up to Planewalkers Vivien and Elspeth to keep the strife between families from escalating into a full-fledged war.

Players can join one of three-colour crime factions. Each group is led by a particular mob leader and has its own set of mechanics:

The Obscura

The Obscura are gifted magicians who channel their magic for means of deception, using illusions and orchestrating scenarios to manipulate and blackmail their adversaries.

Mechanic: Connive – draw a card and discard a card. If a non-land card is discarded this way, put a +1/+1 counter on the creature that connived.

The Maestros

Old-money vampires who are connoisseurs of art, the Maestros are shady assassins disguised among the elite and hell-bent on preserving the culture of Old Capenna.

Mechanic: Casualty – sacrifice a creature with power N or greater to copy any spell tied to this ability.

The Riveteers

Reliant on brute force to get the work done, the unmatched craftsmanship skills of the Riveteers make them masters of intimidation and destruction.

Mechanic: Blitz – creatures with blitz can be cast for an alternate cost to gain ‘haste’ and ‘when this creature dies, draw a card’. Sacrifice the creature at the beginning of the next end step.

The Cabaretti

The Cabaretti are a cult of druids known for throwing the most lavish parties in New Capenna, but their power over the masses reaches far beyond their illustrious dance halls.

Mechanic: Alliance – whenever another creature enters the battlefield, a unique effect is triggered.

The Brokers

While The Brokers seem to handle mundane legal matters and property disputes by day, these dubious solicitors secretly follow a grim doomsday prophecy.

Mechanic: Shield – if a creature with a shield counter would be destroyed or dealt damage, remove a shield counter instead.

Streets of New Capenna also comes with 10 full art “Metropolis” basic lands which can be viewed below:

Furthermore, the “Skyscraper” and “Golden Age” display treatments highlight New Capenna’s bright locations and distinctive cards in all the splendour and glory of the Plane.

MTG has collaborated with five local artists from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines as part of the launch to present SEA-exclusive Family Treasure Tokens, depicting the five bosses of New Capenna’s crime families and Halo, a magical substance central to the set’s story arch.

The Tokens integrate the artists’ different backgrounds and aesthetic interpretations, bringing to life New Capenna’s beauty, richness, and flair. The Annex contains information about the artists.

Streets of New Capenna will be available as Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, and Collector Boosters, as well as faction-specific Theme Boosters and Commander Decks for the player’s preferred crime family. For more information on the Streets of New Capenna expansion, click here.
