Qualcomm recently released two new SoCs with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Both of the new Snapdragon processors are high-end chips with high-end features.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1

The new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 (wew ain’t that a mouthful) is an upgraded version of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 comes with 10% faster CPU performance, 10% faster GPU clocks and a slew of other upgrades.

Other upgrades found on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 include better visual quality, Snapdragon Sight for 8K HDR video recording, better AI capabilities and faster connectivity ie 5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The upgraded Adreno GPU also allows up to 10% faster speeds and 30% power reduction for a better gaming experience.

Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 is set to adopted by a broad line of brands including:

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a new SoC with a selection of high-end features that include high-end mobile gaming, connectivity, AI and other technologies.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 includes Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as the Adreno Frame Motion Engine, which can double the framerate to upscale content while consuming the same amount of power as the Snapdragon 778G. The new SoC is also capable of delivering more than 20% faster graphics rendering.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 allows users to take photos up to 200MP in resolution and in 4K HDR through its Qualcomm Spectr triple ISP. The new SoC also combines its camera abilities with its 7th gen Qualcomm AI Engine for better quality photos.

Lastly, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 comes with better security features via a dedicated Trust Management Engine
and Android Ready SE as well as 4.4 Gbps download speeds via its Snapdragon X62 5G Modem.

Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be adopted by brands and OEMs such as HONOR, OPPO, and Xiaomi. The SoC will start releasing on devices commercially during Q2 of 2022. Read more about the processor here.
