Beam is on a quest to make the world a greener, more beautiful place. People all over the world celebrated World Environment Day earlier this month.

This year’s theme was #OnlyOneEarth, which called for collective and transformative acts to celebrate and defend our one and only planet. This is consistent with Beam’s stance on environmental sensitivity.

Beam pledges sustainable mobility for the future

Beam aims to raise environmental consciousness by assisting commuters in recognising the environmental benefits of shared micro-mobility vehicles.

Beam conducted both a public opinion and a rider survey in May 2022 with the objective of not only gathering insights but also developing a knowledge of how every road user, no matter how little the ride, can help reduce carbon emissions.

The studies also revealed that Malaysians are willing to take on more shared environmental responsibility. Almost half of the 1800 Beam riders polled claimed that having access to e-scooters for the “first or last mile” of a journey made them more likely or considerably more inclined to consider taking public transportation instead of driving or utilising ride-hailing services for lengthy distances.

This mindset is reflected in actual behaviours, with 77% of regular riders reporting they always, usually, or occasionally use an e-scooter to get to or from public transportation.

In addition, the polls provide solid evidence of how e-scooters are reducing car usage. Beam users think that if Beams had not been available, they would have driven more than 60% of their scooter excursions.

Furthermore, they demonstrate how open Malaysian citizens are to the possibility of shared e-scooters operating in their cities, with only 9% of the 1544 citizens polled expressing any level of negativity toward the idea, and this number was cut in half once the safety features, convenience, and environmental benefits of shared e-scooters were explained to them.

Beam is assisting city authorities in their efforts to become more carbon efficient. Beam, for example, has been a zero-emission transportation partner of Shah Alam, one of Malaysia’s most populated cities, since April 2021.

This collaboration was reaffirmed during the Shah Alam Car-Free Day, where Beam discussed the benefits of riding e-scooters while emphasising the significance of following local rules. This is consistent with Shah Alam’s goal of being a “Low Carbon City” by 2030.

Klang’s municipal council followed suit, organising its first Car-Free Day on June 19, 2022. Beam used educational kiosks and e-scooter workshops to acquaint Klang people with the benefits of its e-scooters for the first time. For more information, click the link here.
