Black Shark has officially unveiled their latest gaming smartphones, the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro in Malaysia. Incidentally, Malaysia is the first foreign country (outside of China) to witness the launch of the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro.

The Black Shark 5 Pro is expectedly the more of the two new Black Shark smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood. The Black Shark 5 on the other hand comes with a Snapdragon 870 which is nothing to scoff at either.

Both smartphones feature a new sleek design that is rather different from the ones that came before them. The design features a nice gamer-esque feel with stylistic lines that run on the back of the Black Shark 5 series. There is also a customisable RGB light on the back because it’s not a gaming device if it doesn’t have some RGB on it amirite?

It seems that Black Shark didn’t skimp on the camera this year as they look to be packing some serious hardware. The Black Shark 5 Pro packs a triple camera setup consisting of a 108MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP telephoto camera.

The Black Shark 5 also sports a triple camera setup though the main camera is instead a 64MP camera with a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. Both devices come with a 16MP wide selfie shooter.

Both the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro come with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The displays support 10-bit colour depth, DCI-P3 colour gamut, HDR 10+, SGS eyecare protection and an upgraded dual-zone pressure-sensing technology.

Both smartphones include dual speakers with 0.8mm amplitude and 1.5 cc cavities. The speakers also include 4mm drivers with two superpower Smart PAs up to 14V and two boosts ICs, combined with NLC audio algorithm for great sound performance during gaming or normal media consumption.

Since the Black Shark 5 series is a gaming smartphone first, Black Shark has included a pretty robust cooling system to help with the heat generated from intense gaming sessions. The smartphones come with a new anti-gravity dual VC liquid cooling system that helps dissipate heat faster after intense sessions.

Just like on the Black Shark 4 series, the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro see the return of the pop-up magnetic triggers. They also feature support for 120W Hyper Charge fast charging and a battery size of 4,650mAh.

Both the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro come with two storage variants with different retail prices to reflect the variants. Retail prices of each device are as below:

Black Shark 5 Pro

  • 12GB + 256GB: RM 3,699
  • 16GB + 256GB: RM 3,999

The Black Shark 5 comes in two colours; Mirror Black and Explorer Grey, while the Black Shark 5 Pro comes in Nebula White and Stellar Black.

It is available for purchase now through Shopee and Lazada. Those who purchase the devices early will receive a complimentary Black Shark Lucifer T2 when they order the Black Shark 5 or Black Shark Lucifer T6 when they order the Black Shark 5 Pro.
