Synology today announced the general availability of DiskStation Manager 7.1 (DSM 7.1), a significant feature upgrade that adds even more data security and system administration capabilities aimed at addressing IT concerns.
DSM 7.1 significantly improves the storage management experience. It includes SMB DFS capabilities to enable administrators to link together several Synology systems, beginning with the creation of file aggregation portals. This makes file access more convenient for end-users by eliminating the need to remember several addresses.
The redesigned user interface introduced in 7.0 has been improved further by grouping background tasks into an administrator-friendly summary. This increases transparency into what is going on in the system, even across user accounts.
Users can now access and manage drives on both systems from a single instance of Storage Manager in Synology High Availability clusters, making maintenance and management easier.
DSM has long supported flash caching to improve random I/O performance in a cost-effective manner. With the capacity to accelerate several storage volumes at the same time, this new edition will significantly reduce the cost of SSD caching.
DSM 7.1 includes full, bare-metal backups of the entire system. The ability to image and replicate the complete Synology system, powered by Synology Active Backup for Business, considerably accelerates recovery time goals (RTO) in the case of a total site failure.
Full system restoration capability also allows for the quick and easy deployment of similarly configured computers.
