Garmin Malaysia has released the world’s first GPS bike computer powered by the sun, the Garmin Edge 1040 Solar in Malaysia. The Edge 1040 Solar features a Power Glass solar charging lens and can last up to 100 hours in battery saver mode. Garmin has also released a non-solar version of the Garmin Edge 1040.

Both the Edge 1040 Solar and the non-solar version come with multi-band GNSS technology as well as cycling ability and course demands that allow cyclists to classify their strengths and weaknesses for a specific course. It also features a power guide, real-time stamina insights and solar charging (exclusive to the Edge 1040 Solar).

The Garmin Edge 1040 Series helps cyclists improve their performance by providing information from Firstbeat Analytics like as VO2 max, recovery time, training load, training focus, and more to monitor how their body is responding to their training efforts. They’ll also receive daily workout recommendations based on their current training load and VO2 max.

Furthermore, when following a course, ClimbPro displays the remaining ascent and grade for each hill, and cyclists can analyse their performance on the climbs post-ride directly from the Garmin Edge 1040 Series or the Garmin Connect app. Cyclists can also sync workouts from Garmin Connect or other training apps, such as TrainingPeaks, to the Garmin Edge 1040.

The Garmin Edge 1040 Solar and the non-solar version have LiveTrack built-in, allowing for friends and loved ones to follow the user’s real-time location and view their entire pre-planned course. There are also group messaging and tracking features included. Moreover, the Edge 1040 Series is compatible with the Varia line of cycling awareness devices.

The Edge 1040 Series may also connect to a Tacx indoor trainer, allowing cyclists to keep track of their sensor battery level with post-ride data immediately on the Edge 1040 Solar and battery alarm messages between rides via the Garmin Connect app. Riders will get pre-populated unique ride profiles based on their prior Edge settings, whereas new users will get the most popular setups from other users based on their sensors and ride types.

Garmin Edge 1040 Solar price and availability

The Garmin Edge 1040 Solar and the non-solar version are available now with retail prices of RM3,699 and RM3,450, respectively. Both devices can be purchased through the official Garmin Stores on Shopee, Lazada, AECO e-store and all Garmin authorised retailers.
