On September 9, Wizards of the Coast will release Dominaria United, the latest set for the world’s best trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, for tabletop. The new set, the first in a multi-set storyline set in Magic’s original plane, Dominaria, foreshadows a climactic showdown between heroes and villains in a world on the verge of invasion. The set, which coincides with the start of MTG’s 30th Anniversary celebration, includes 281 cards.
What’s Dominaria United all about?
An apocalyptic threat is stirring within Dominaria, and an ancient yet familiar foe has finally emerged. The Phyrexian army, led by Praetor Sheoldred, is hellbent on invasion after many years in the shadows. Dominaria United sees the beginning of an insidious invasion that threatens not only the destruction of Dominaria, but the entire Multiverse, with the return of fan-favourite Planeswalkers Karn, Ajani Goldmane, Liliana Vess, and Jaya Ballard.
Dominaria United is significant not only for its world-changing story arc but also kicks off MTG’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. Wizards Play Network stores will receive 3-4 foil retro-frame promos showcasing classic cards from MTG’s history beginning with Dominaria United and continuing through the next eight Standard set releases. These are only available to players who attend Prerelease events though.
With the return of set-integrated Jumpstart booster packs, Dominaria United will also continue to provide a fun way to experience Magic. Jumpstart is a method of quick deck building designed to get players casting spells from the moment they open their boosters, making it ideal for both newcomers and veterans looking to play matches on the go.
Each pack, which will feature ten distinct themes from the world of Dominaria, will contain 20 cards that can be combined with any second Jumpstart booster for a quick, limited-lite format of play.
Players who obtain Dominaria United’s collector boosters will be rewarded with Lost Legends, a throwback to Magic’s origins in which cards from the 1994 ‘Legends’ set can be opened. Over 240 Legends cards of varying rarities are available, ranging from Elder Dragon Nicol Bolas to the classic Moat.
Magic’s original fantasy setting will also be featured in the form of stunning Stained Glass Full Art Lands, Legendary creatures, Planeswalkers, and terrifying Phyrexian cards. Within Set, Draft, and Collector Booster packs, each will be available in foil and non-foil treatment.
Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, Jumpstart Boosters, Commander decks, and Bundles will be available for Dominaria United.
Players who pre-order at least RM450 on Dominaria United products in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines will receive a limited-edition Token collectable. The token is the first in a three-part series with varying degrees of transparency, and the entire set will form a battlefield mural. Each customer will only be able to receive one token.
