POCO has unveiled two new POCO smartphones with the POCO M5 and POCO M5s. The M5 is designed to be an all-rounder type of smartphone while the M5s offers higher performance, particularly in the entertainment department.

POCO M5

The new POCO M5 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset with an octa-core CPU, with two high-performance Cortex-A76 clocking up to 2.2GHz, along with an Arm Mali G57 GPU. This is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that’s expandable up to 1TB via microSD.

The display on the M5 is a 6.58-inch Full HD+ DotDrop display with an adaptive DynamicSwitch 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The POCO M5’s display also comes with a feature called Sunlight display which helps users see the screen better under sunlight.

The POCO M5 also comes equipped with a triple camera setup which includes a 50MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. At the front sits a 5MP selfie camera situated in the dewdrop notch. Cracking open the hood is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. The M5 also features an IR blaster, a feature I personally love.

POCO M5s

The POCO M5s is the higher-end brother of the two with upgraded features almost across the board, save for a few, which we will touch on later.

Camera-wise, the POCO M5s touts a quad camera setup which includes a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera and two 2MP depth sensors. The M5s is capable of capturing 4K video recording capped at 30 frames per second. As for selfies, the M5s has a 13MP front camera.

POCO M5s come with a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED DotDisplay though it is capped at 60Hz. The device also has several features DC Dimming and 360° ambient light sensors to adjust the screen brightness and comes with dual speakers. 

Under the hood, the POCO M5s packs a MediaTek Helio G95 SoC which is a curious inclusion as the Helio G95 is a slightly weaker chipset compared to the M5’s Helio G99. The M5s also comes with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that’s expandable up to 1TB via microSD. There’s a 5,000mAh battery inside with support for 33W fast charging.

Both the M5 and M5s feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Price and availability

The POCO M5 comes in two variants and three different colours; Black, Green, and Yellow. The smartphone can be purchased now on official POCO stores on Lazada and Shopee. The retail prices of the variants are as below:

  • 4GB+64GB – Retails for RM649 (Early Bird Price: RM599) 
  • 6GB+128GB – Retails at RM799 (Early Bird Price: RM699)

The POCO M5s also comes in two storage variants and in three different colours; Grey, White, and Blue. It can be purchased now on official POCO stores on Lazada and Shopee. The prices are as below:
