We have seen laptop manufacturers establish sub-brands of sorts to differentiate products, or to build a niche in a way. These same brands make gaming laptops with different names to offer different demographics. Acer does it too but the Acer Nitro has gone through a series of identity crises that, even we got confused about many times. But that ends today because here at CES 2023, Acer Nitro 16 for 2023 finally has its own identity and gets the all-new AMD Ryzen 7000 Series treatment.
CES 2023 Acer Nitro 16 First Look
Now sure, you look at this design, you go – hold on, isn’t this the new facelift design we saw not too long ago you are right, it kind of is. Acer Malaysia had an event where they unveiled the newly designed Nitro laptops but it’s the one here at CES 2023 that gets the true Nitro identity. As funny as it is, cutting the “Predator” logo into half and using it for Nitro where it does look like the letter “N” – I got to give creative points to Acer for this. It is funny, in a good way.
But that once-upon-a-time-budget-feeling-Nitro laptop is gone for good because of this new Acer Nitro 16 screams premium in every way possible. If you have used a Predator Helio laptop, you can tell that both these laptops share some similarities in the design. Consumers opting in for the Nitro, too should get a taste of that “premium-ness” because once you do experience it, it is hard to turn back. The back with the “N” logo with the Blue and Red streak and a little text that says “Acer Nitro” – I have to say, the Acer Nitro laptop is complete.
Once you do open up the lid, you get to see a full-size keyboard with a number pad on the side, a pretty huge trackpad and an odd-shaped palm rest – which is the only thing that throws me off with the Nitro 16. Otherwise, opting for a proper-sized arrow key is a nice touch and you do see the “white” outlined keycaps for WASD, Arrow Keys and the NitroSense. Speaking of NitroSense, we don’t know if it is improved, so this is something we can only check out when we get the chance to do it. So, stay tuned to us for that.
Acer Nitro 16 doesn’t shy away from offering a good amount of ports all around – and that’s good.
The display on the Acer Nitro 16 comes in a choice of two: a WUXGA or WQXGA display with 165Hz refresh rate with Advanced Optimus to give the right kind of refresh rate and improve other elements that affect your gaming. The thinner bezels and the bespoke “N” logo at the bottom are a nice touch and look gamer-approved. Oh, we said Optimus and that only means one thing. Also, the Nitro 16 comes in one size bigger too – the Nitro 17.
This laptop runs on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series and for the processor, we get the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 Series. In the past we have seen the Nitro series be available till the highest GPU configuration, so you can expect the same with this Acer Nitro 16, with killer specifications and a killer combination.
Seeing the years of an identity crisis the Nitro lineup went through, has finally come to an end is a relief. For what it’s worth, in the past when we got the chance to try the Nitro laptops, despite its pros and cons, it was still a commendable laptop. But then there was also a time when we kind of stopped seeing improvements, which made me disappointed. But to see all the ups and downs, and to see the Nitro 16 or 17 come to fruition – is a sight to behold.
On other aspects, like the performance and so on, we can’t comment much because we had limited time with it but when we do get our hands on it – you will hear from us. There’s no information on the pricing for Malaysia, we will update you on this soon.
