BMW M series has been the pinnacle of motor vehicles in their arsenal for as long as they have existed and it brings high performance like no other. To mark this momentous day, they have incorporated the X and the M, making the first-ever BMW XM – a monstrous high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle with electrified drive, making its debut in Malaysia.

Performance

The BMW XM brings the X, representing the electric side of things and the M, the performance side, together. This happens to be the first ever car to feature the BMW M Hybrid drive system, which comes combined with a model-specific M suspension technology, offering a dynamic driving experience like no other.
Since it’s a PHEV-style vehicle, which is a combination of plug-in hybrid and ICE – it outputs a powerful oomph in its performance—rated at 653 horsepower (480Kw) and 800 Nm of torque, delivered through an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with a max cap of top speed at 250km/h, although there is a 270km/h capped version which only comes with the M Driver’s package and the electric top speed is capped at 140 km/h.
It features the M xDrive all-wheel drive system as a standard. On top of that, with the basic 4WD settings, drivers have the option to choose the 4WD Sport mode, which offers agility and a rear-biased drive train. Not to forget, modes like the Sand Mode will give the ability to optimize traction and stability. It’s all running on a new 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine. This car is capable of doing a 4.3-second-century sprint – and that’s crazy.

Deep inside the floor of the vehicle, lies the high-voltage battery that can be charged up to 7.4 kW at an AC charging station and offers a 25.7 kWh battery capacity. To charge from 0% to 100%, it takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Inside

Inside the car, it comes equipped with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, featuring a 12.3-inch display that works in tandem with the 14.9-inch Control display – keeping things uncluttered. Being an SAV, you do see the Heads-up Display which offers an uninterrupted driving experience where you can monitor things without taking a glance anywhere else.

There are other digital features incorporated into it such as BMW ID, BMW Gesture Control, Connected Package Professional I, Smartphone Integration and Emergency Call, Teleservices and more. It also comes with a Comfort Access key, where you don’t have to lift a single thing and just get the car unlocked – just like that.

Now just like every other car we have seen with technologies that aid a driver for a better experience, we do know a lot of those here – classified under the name Driving Assistant Professional – which offer things like Lane Control, and Automatic speed assist to name a few.
BMW XM: Aesthetics

Outside the car, the XM features the M aerodynamics package and M High-gloss Shadow line, with extended content made available for the shadow line. It comes with Adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant as standard. On the front, the kidney grille is only getting bigger with the hallmark M horizontal double louvres, and illumination on that grille. The two power domes sitting on top of it are just very well sculpted.

On the side, we can see the slopping roofline giving it a muscular, hunk-like appearance. A big boy like this needs nice shoes – so you see a 23-inch M Light-Alloy Wheels Star Spoke Style 923 M Bicolour Night Gold Accent. The Shadow line features a 23-inch M Light-Alloy Wheels Star Spoke Style 923 M Bicolour Black Accent instead.

On the back of the BMW XM, the L-shaped taillights with two twin tailpipes and that angular design with flared wheel arches – adds a nice geometrically pleasing finish. The Hexagonal twin pipes on this are arranged vertically, which gives this car a different feel from the signature M we have seen so far.
Now for the dimensions, – it measures 5110mm in length, 2,235mm inclusive of the mirrors in width and 1755 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 3105 mm. To store luggage, it has a 527 litres trunk space which is also expandable to 1820 litres.
