One of the exciting announcements during the Computex 2023 for us has to be the HyperX Cloud III because after 8 years of dominance in the gaming headphone segment by Cloud II given how well it did and well it still receives an amazing response from consumers – only goes to prove that it was a well-made product. The HyperX Cloud III brings a whole new improvement to the table and we are sure heck excited to talk about it.
Computex 2023 HyperX Cloud III
HyperX Cloud III still has a similar design to its predecessor, think of it as the DNA but it has evolved to match the user’s of today with a rather modern choice in its design. It has an entirely new look and finish which I am a fan of. Gone are those stitches on the headband and the bigger HyperX logo, for a much cleaner finish. Starting off with the headband, which no longer has stitches and has a much better memory foam and softer leatherette. The buckle on the side is now constructed with just one piece vs the two pieces on the Cloud II.
The frame of the Cloud III has a much curvier design as compared to the very industrial-looking frame with the plastic cap on the hinge, which is gone for good. Finally, the earcups also use memory foam which increases the comfort by an extra mile – giving you longer game time with no discomfort whatsoever. In fact, when I tried it, the clamping force was just nice – which has always been the case with every HyperX headphone I have used.
Design aside, there are some improved design choices that do affect the functionality of the device for the better. Starting with the drivers: which is a re-engineered 53mm angled driver versus the normal 53mm drivers we saw with the HyperX Cloud II. You can notice it the moment you remove the cups and see the angled design. This is to make sure that it is more accurately and directly faced with the ears.
Finally, the Microphone gets a jump from 6mm to 10mm for better clarity and gone are those foam cover which gets easily lost, and comes with a built-in metal pop filter. You also get the mute LED on the microphone, similar to one of the HyperX headphones we reviewed not too long ago.
Software-wise, HyperX has decided to ditch the Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound for DTS:X Spatial which we experienced with the HyperX Cloud Core Wireless, which we reviewed here. All of it is incorporated into Ngenuity which is pretty decent.
The headphones, come with a 3.5mm headphone cable, which can be extended to a USB-C cable and if you happen to use a USB-A device, it also comes with an adapter to switch easily. Lovely choice.
