Sony has once again added a new lens to their lineup and this time, it’s the G Series getting a new one. The Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G Lens is a pretty compact zoom lens for those who need that focal length and it’s coming to Malaysia at RM 5,699. Here’s what you get for that price.

The Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G Lens comes in a rather compact footprint (440 grams) which complements very well with their compact-full frame bodies like the A7C and A7CR – but then again it does work with any Full Frame camera from Sony. Since it’s a G Lens, you do get the finest engineering Sony has to offer with their lenses. This lens offers a fixed f2.8 aperture for that nice bokeh and better low-light performance compared to the F4 OSS lenses Sony has. With the 24-50mm focal length, you best bet that the camera gives you the versatility to jump back and forth depending on the type of shoot you plan to use it for.
Under the hood, the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G Lens has 4 aspherical lenses and two pieces of ED (Extra Low Dispersion Glass) to reduce chromatic aberrations and give high-resolution performance users would need. The lens uses an 11-blade circular aperture which is pretty good for that soft and smooth bokeh you’d require while shooting at f/2.8. It isn’t a macro lens, however, the 0.19m minimum shooting distance at wide settings and a maximum magnification of 0.30 x AF in close-up settings is pretty impressive – that it could qualify as a potential “Macro” lens.
Just like any other G Lens, you do get the full-fledged controls on the lens – from adjusting the focus, aperture rings, and the ability to click and de-click the aperture for smooth operation and focus mode switch – this lens gives you the control you need to change on the fly.
