With Intel Core Ultra stealing the show for the most part with a laptop that touts a thin and light profile by offering more power than ever before, ASUS Malaysia unveils the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED and Vivobook S 14 OLED in Malaysia. Not only does it get the Intel Ultra treatment, but the laptop comes with a lot of refinement that makes this vaguely familiar.
ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED and ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED Malaysia
The ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED and S 14 OLED have been the higher-end Vivobook of the series and this time around, we do see the kind of change that makes it somewhat of a “borderline Zenbook” in more ways than one – which in all honesty is a very good thing.
For one, both the laptop aims to bring that thin, light experience to the table and your backpack wherever you go – so, both the laptops are 15.9mm thin and the 14” weighs about 1.3kg and the 16” at 1.5kg. Get this, the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED and S 14 OLED have an all-metal finish, making it the most premium Vivobook to date. It does have a 180-degree hinge if that’s something of interest. The laptops will be available in two colours: Neutral Black and Mist Blue. It still has the MIL-STD 810H durability standard.
Once you do open the lid up, you are greeted with the new generation ASUS Lumina OLED HDR Display, at 3.2K resolution with 600 peak nit brightness, 100% DCI-P3 Colour Gamut and an 89% screen-to-body ratio. Despite all of that, the laptop touts the IR Camera with Windows Hello and a physical shutter on the top. So, you are not missing out on your meetings, hunting for a camera.
While it may not be a gaming laptop, although it does house an Intel Arc Graphics – making it capable of light gaming even, there are some features such as the ASUS ErgoSense keyboard with a 1.7mm key travel which now has a single-zone RGB Backlight that appears to be customizable with Windows Dynamic Lighting. And of course, you get the monstrous big trackpad for ease of use when you don’t have your portable mouse with you.
Early this year, we noticed a lot of laptops getting a dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard, and this Vivobook is one of them. As for the rest, the laptop doesn’t shy away from offering a plethora of ports for you to connect your laptop however you want: 2x Thunderbolt 4, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, MicroSD Slot and a 3.5mm headphone/mic combo jack. You get the usual Harman Kardon speaker experience which we have seen in other ASUS laptops as well.
Finally moving on to specs, both the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED and ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED is powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra and you get to pick either the 5 or 7. Following that, you get 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM with Memory Allocation Management. For connectivity, we still get the same Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6E (sadly, still no WiFi 7). There will be a 1TB storage variant for the S 16, which will only come in later this Q2 2024.
ASUS Vivobook S 16 and S 14 Malaysia Pricing
Starting with the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED, the price will start at RM 4,699 whereas the smaller S 14 OLED will go for RM 4,399 onwards. Both the laptops will be available starting 29th April 2024, and at the time of writing this, ASUS Malaysia is opening early bird offers where you can pick either one of the mentioned models up and get a Sony SRS-XB100 Portable speaker worth RM 259 as a freebie, while stocks last of course.
