While most consumers would know this camera for the “drama” that recently went pretty viral in the camera space, the Panasonic Lumix S9 is still a camera worth the attention for what it tries to be. That said, post-global launch which happened in May, the Panasonic Lumix S9 Malaysia launch has finally happened and you can get your hands on this very soon. But here’s our Panasonic Lumix S9 impressions.

Panasonic Lumix S9 Impression

Panasonic Lumix S9 Malaysia

The Panasonic Lumix S9 isn’t entirely a new camera from the ground up per se, because it shares some level of similarities with the Panasonic S5 II (Thanks Robin for sharing!) – like the full-frame sensor in a small form factor. But that said, there are some setbacks in the feature department, so get ready for us to address those.

Here’s what you are missing with the Panasonic Lumix S9:

  • It doesn’t have EVF and no mechanical shutter. So, the direction for this camera is more in line with social media content creators who would like to capture bits and pieces of clips here and there.
  • You do lose out on a lot of the S5 II features such as the joystick control, second command dial and the integrated fan, which is justifiable because it is compact after all. And yes it only has one SD Card slot.
  • Finally, while the camera does recording videos and all that at the highest possible resolution, it caps the recording range. For instance, you can shoot a 6K in 10-minute segments and it gets longer as you go down in resolution – which honestly, could be frustrating for most videographers but hey, if you are one, you are not looking at this camera to begin with.

Other than that…

But all that aside, some noteworthy features make the Panasonic Lumix S9 unique in its own way. For one, the Real Time LUT – a patented feature for this camera allows you to use LUTs on the camera to shoot natively. So, basically, I could convert my Lightroom LUT into a cube file and voila, I have a “simulation” going on. We didn’t get to try because of the limited time with the camera but we intend to explore more when we get our hands on it for review. But they did claim that you can have up to 2 LUT files applied at the same time.

The Panasonic Lumix S9 definitely helps content creators more than professionals as it has everything that a content creator would need (translate: TikTok generation). It houses a 24.2MP Sensor fitted inside a body that weighs at 403 grams. It runs a 5-axis IBIS with 6.25 stops with Dual IS and 5 stops in-body. There’s support for a new LUMIX Lab app for effortless connection – to transfer, edit and all that fun stuff.

However, there’s a Challenge Panasonic has…

We all know for a fact that other brands are taking the route of making obtainable cameras for content creation and the camera that immediately will get pitted against the Panasonic Lumix S9 will be the Full Frame Sony ZV-E1 – a monstrous camera in its own way. But again, it all trickles down to what a consumer is looking for. We will talk about it soon.
