While the market for Virtual Reality is somewhat scarce despite a decent number of players around, it’s a lot more nonexistent when it comes to Mixed Reality as it focuses on both Virtual and Actual Reality. So, to strike the right chords can be challenging. But a Shanghai-based company, Play For Dream has got some titillating hardware collaboration going on. The Play For Dream Mixed Reality (Play For Dream MR) is the headset they are venturing with, into the Asian Market and here’s what we know so far.

Play For Dream Mixed Reality

Based in Shanghai, the brand is not a stranger to the whole Virtual Reality scene as they have two headsets called YVR and YVR2 which are exclusively available in China and can be obtained through AliExpress. But that said, the Play For Dream Mixed Reality is a completely new product with newer hardware, executed rather differently and claims to be a contender to “Apple’s Vision Pro”.

Things get a lot more interesting as we check out the Play for Dream MR because it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 with 16GB RAM and storage options of 512GB or 1TB in UFS 3.1 configuration. The second thing is that they have opted in for a Micro OLED display from BOE that hits 3840×3552 resolution on each eye lens with a PPI of 3882. They have gone for a Pancake lens with 45 PPD and a 103-degree FOV.

To do all the tracking, the Play for Dream MR will house 11 cameras, 22 infrared LEDs to keep the controllers in sync and 7 different types of sensors. Hardware aside, it runs on its Android-based OS. Since it’s portable, you can carry it anywhere just like Oculus or the Apple Vision for that matter. There are some team-ups with key industry players to make the experience worthwhile, such as IMAX for IMAX Enhanced experience, Unity for its framework and app Development and Xperi, a service that aims to bring IMAX, DTS content to your home. In this case, to your headset.

We have more to talk about the headset, which deserves content of its own, which you can click here to read.
