There aren’t many bone-conduction headphones or earbuds that “hover over your ear” out there and when you find one, you best bet it’s Shokz making them. Adding on to their existing lineup is the Shokz OpenFit Air, their “lite” version of the OpenFit that is available in Malaysia for RM 899. However, these new Air cost less than that and today we find out more about it.

Shokz OpenFit Air

The Shokz OpenFit Air threads on the same line as its brethren and shares the same DNA as the other products they make: a TWS that doesn’t sit in your ear canal. This new one has an Open-ear design which wraps around your ear and hovers over your ear canal. The brand calls the support stem “the earhook”, which is meant for steadiness. They do use a flexible Ni-Ti (Nickel-Titanium alloy) for flexibility, and it’s covered in a soft silicone finish. All this weighs just 8.7 grams.

The reason for this product to exist in the consumer segment is for athletes or sports enthusiasts to not just sync to their music but to keep themselves aware of their surroundings. Since they don’t necessarily use an audio driver in their other bone conduction headphones, this uses an 18x11mm composite dynamic driver unit and are IP54 certified. With the help of 4 microphones and a Qualcomm cVc 8.0 chipset, you can make crystal clear phone calls with better noise reduction.

It aims to offer 28 hours total hours of playback time with the case and offers 6 hours of listening time when it’s out of the case in one go. It connects via Bluetooth 5.2 and supports SBC and AAC codecs. The earbuds can be customized with the Shokz App which can be used to enable MultiPoint Pairing, control EQs, customize and receive updates.

The Shokz OpenFit Air comes in 3 colours – White, Black and Pink and is priced at RM 599. You can get it through their authorized stores like TMT, and Urban Republic just to name a few. Or you can purchase these through their Official Shopee Store, you can get a free case cover for your OpenFit Air – while stocks last. As for the rest, you do get the standard 2-year warranty, just like with their other products.
