After its appearance at Computex 2024 earlier this year, the ROG Ally X has finally arrived in Malaysia. Immediately when you see ROG Ally X, you will wonder if it’s the same – because it does look the same. However, consider the ROG Ally X as the facelift with good improvements.

Improvements

For one, the ROG Ally X has double the battery and it now has an 80Wh (vs 40Wh), and with Windows running, it’s safe to say that the device will now last longer. Their upgrade in storage to 1TB 2280 (vs 512GB 2230) makes finding a larger capacity SSD for the Ally X easier, especially with the 2280. There’s an increase in the RAM department too and it gets 24GB (vs 16GB) If you plan to expand the storage with a MicroSD card, it’s possible, now at a new location, so that it doesn’t overheat. And we now get 2x USB-C (10Gbps and USB4). So, for those with the XG Mobile, time to bid farewell to it.

The chassis on the ROG Ally X goes black and as much as I am a fan of the white finish, I am happy to report that the improved and comfortable grip on the Ally X is just miles better. The Joysticks on the front are now rated for 5 million cycles (vs 2 million cycles) with better and tighter springs for that nice resistance. The D-Pad also gets an 8-way indicator (vs 4-way) which is great. ASUS claims that their Face Buttons now have improved tactility and the buttons on the back are now smaller.

The speakers are now louder and most importantly, the cooling is now improved with dual 77-blade fans and more ventilation (vs dual 47-blade fans). Finally, the charging speeds on this have gone upto 100W (vs 65W) making it pretty amazing to get it up and running in no time.
Similarities

As for the similarities, it still uses the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and touts a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz Display with 500 nits’ brightness. Sadly, we don’t see any OLED display here. It still has a 3.5mm audio combo jack and the MicroSD card is still rated at UHS-II speeds.

Pre-order and Pricing

The ROG Ally X goes for RM 4,299 which costs a grand more than the ROG Ally when it was released. This could be due to factors like inflation and improvements – but it is still the only official handheld gaming device you can get here in Malaysia. That said, ASUS Malaysia is throwing in a pre-order offer till the 31st of July 2024, where you can get gifts worth RM 658 which include:
- ROG Ally Premium Hard Case
- ROG Gaming Charger Dock
- ROG Ally X Screen Protector
