For those who are wondering, it’s 2024, why there isn’t a proper english interface for Taobao. Well, your prayers have been answered as the Taobao Malaysia English Interface is now live and in Beta – which means, no more troubling your zhong-wen friend.

For the folks who are super used to Taobao would know that it predominantly caters to chinese-speaking and reading users as the interface has never changed for the longest. Though they do have English, it can be a bit of a hit and miss. That said, Taobao Malaysia is aiming to change this experience and get more of our wallets as we can now spend like there’s no tomorrow. That said, Jess Lew, the Country Manager for Tmall Taobao World, Malaysia – hopes to bring better experience with the english interface.

What’s special about the Taobao Beta English Interface

They have redesigned the interface for better, making it easier for everyone to use, including existing customers. For one, the translation for English is AI powered, which means there’s a good chance, with the help of machine learning, it can get better. If you do have a situation where you have to reach out to the customer service, fret not, as the live Chat/Customer Service now supports multilingual communication – making it easier for non-mandarin speakers to easily reach out, available every day from 9am to 9pm.

The app is definitely catered to the local market, as you can pay with TnG eWallet, VISA, MasterCard and even Apple Pay. They are offering flexibility in shipping with options to choose, air or sea and to be delivered either to your doorstep or at the nearest pickup point. If you want to return, it can done through the local warehouse, making it easier as well.

Discounts in Conjunction to English Interface Launch

In conjunction to their Taobao Malaysia Beta English Interface launch, there are discounts available for new and returning consumers:

  • Free air shipping on fashion item purchases above RMB199.
  • New User Perks worth RMB65, which includes a RMB20 shopping voucher which can be used with a minimum spend of RM150, an RMB30 international shipping voucher and RMB15 service fee voucher.
  • Your first return on your first order is free, that is if you purchase items with mentions of “Local Returns” or “Free Returns” and can be returned to Taobao’s local warehouse within 15 days from the date of the receipt. Subsequent returns with pick-up service will be RMB15 for West Malaysia. As for East Malaysia users, you can send items to a designated address.
