While it may not be the highly anticipated smartphone for the reasons you think, the next iPhone SE was still rumored to surface for a while. But that rumor-mill, while it was true about most parts, there are things to talk about the new, now called iPhone 16e which we are going to get into in this article.

iPhone 16e Malaysia

The “4th generation SE” which now goes by the name 16e marks the dawn of a totally new generation of budget iPhone. This would mean one thing – and that’s RIP SE lineup. But now that’s out of the way, the iPhone 16e joins the more modern style and design in more ways than one and still keeps some of the “dated” designs for the sake of keeping the cost low.

On the front, you are looking at a 6.1” Super Retina XDR OLED Display which is a nice touch and in dimensions it is definitely identical to the normal-sized iPhone 16. You do get all of the good things that comes with the following display such as: HDR, True Tone, Wide Colour support, 800 peak nit brightness in normal conditions and 1200 peak nit in HDR and a ceramic glass for that durability. Weight-wise it comes in at 167g which is light and it only comes in two colours: Black and White. So, for those PRODUCT(RED) fans out there like myself, tough luck. And yes, it has the more traditional notch.

Under the hood, you are looking at the same A18 Processor which is capable of handling Apple Intelligence and keep up with the likes of the 16 Series, however, there’s a huge catch. While the A18 on the 16 uses, comes with a 5-core GPU – the 16e uses a 4-core GPU instead. Now how drastically it affects the performance is a story for another day but expect some differences. As this is, once again the gateway phone into Apple’s ecosystem, you expect hardware that will work regardless with no issues whatsoever.

On the back, it has a single 48MP Fusion Camera with a 2-in-1 camera system capable of doing 2x Telephoto digitally and not optically. Apple claims to offer the same experience as the 16 models, which is a nice assurance. Another thing worth noting is the available storage options: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

The other big thing about the iPhone 16e is the newly equipped Apple C1, their first ever in-house modem on an iPhone for 5G, which Apple once again claims to offer a good power-efficient experience while being reliable. Because of this, Apple has managed to integrate satellite features into this phone, so you can send messages, use Find My, Roadside Assistance and Emergency SOS via satellite. Something you cannot get from an Android phone, that’s for sure.

Some noteworthy features on the iPhone 16E include the new Action Button, replacing the mute switch, a USB-C port (finally, making all the iPhone lineup USB-C for good), and, of course, the new iOS 18, which brings some exciting features that help you make your iPhone 16E truly yours.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 16e is available for pre-order starting 9pm Malaysia Time on 21st February and the phones are priced as follows: 128GB for RM 2,999, 256GB for RM 3,499 and 512GB for RM 4,499. As mentioned earlier, the phones will be available in two colours: Black and White. The iPhone 16e will be readily available in stores from 28th February onwards.

As an iPhone SE 2nd Generation user, will we get our hands on the 16e? Well, only time will tell.
