Every funky power bank you see out there is expensive for its IP Licensing and heavily misses out on the safety standards by using poor battery quality and circuits, which is detrimental to the devices you charge. And with new policies for air travel, you do not want to bring an unsafe power bank that could go off mid-flight. So, what if I told you that you can still have a fun and safe power bank? In this SHARGE Starship Seer Powerbank Review – I have to say, this is by far the best power bank we have used to date, that’s safe, fun and properly done.

SHARGE Starship Seer Powerbank Review

Design and Build

SHARGE has always made aesthetically pleasing products since day one and it’s no different with the SHARGE Starship Seer – for those who love Sci-fi and Star Trek, you best bet this powerbank will excite them. It’s available in two colours: Black and Yellow, the latter is what we received.

I am a fan of this striking yellow colour which stands out at tables and catches attention for the right reasons. Not just that, you do have the label, and other “thematic” printings all around the power bank to give it the “Retro-futuristic-sci-fi” feel.

The entire power bank is made up of plastic, which is okay but it’s well put together. The transparent finish really looks good – you can see the batteries, the circuit and some opaque yellow pieces which adds a nice contrast.

Despite the SHARGE Starship Seer being a 10,000mAh battery pack, it is extremely small and pocketable (there’s a reason for that) – in fact, it only weighs 220 grams. But if you want to attach a strap to the sides, that’s possible too – making it a pretty cute accessory to hang it on your bag, or anywhere that’s convenient.

Is it Airline Safe? – Hardware Specification

SHARGE Starship Seer Powerbank is without a doubt airline safe because the battery capacity is at 36Wh (Airline limit without special permission: 100Wh) – so, you are safe. On the front of the battery pack, you have a display which we will get into in a bit, and on the side, you have USB-A output and USB-C capable of both input and Output.

If you don’t know, USB-A has a limitation when it comes to fast charging in general, so the speeds are capped at 18W whereas the USB-C port gives you full access to the max rating of this powerbank, which is 35W. You can use both the ports at the same time, but it will limit the output to a maximum 20W. This is to make sure that the powerbank does not heat up.

Interesting Safety Choices (Also the reason why it costs RM 299)

A lot of users’ biggest concern would be the pricing of this powerbank, and we mentioned how some powerbanks look great but cheap out on the rest of the experience. This is where SHARGE’s amazing choice in making this product comes in.

To keep the dimensions smaller, SHARGE opted for 21700 Series Lithium-ion cells – more specifically, two cells to make this power bank. These cells provide higher energy density, capacity and most importantly, better efficiency compared to the older 18650 Lithium-ion Cells.

These 21700 cells are specifically designed to store energy. These are protected cells, all possible with a circuit SHARGE opted in for, which prevents the battery from overcharging, over-discharging and short-circuiting.

In fact, you can see it point out all the necessary information through the display.

The Cool Functional Display

The display on the front is pretty cute, and shows the information in the same colour as the battery pack. When you press and turn it on, it tells you the time in 12-hour format, making it extremely ideal to use it on the move and keep track of your time. Press and hold it, you can set an alarm which then beeps and when the alarm goes off. Two features I never thought I needed in a battery bank proved useful during my trip to Singapore recently.

SHARGE takes a lot of pride in making the world’s first power bank that can predict the duration for charging and discharging. And it does a great job of showing those necessary details. From Left to Right: you have the icon which shows the power output/input with the arrow directions, then you have the Wattage your device is using to charge, the time taken to discharge when you are charging your device and the time taken to charge the powerbank when you are charging it, and the capacity remaining with the percentage logo.

Right below the percentage logo, there’s another icon, the overheating icon – when it turns on, it blinks and slows down the charging speeds to bring the temperature down and then resume the charging. All this information being displayed on the power bank is a big win and I really appreciate it. The display they use is a low reflective screen which is legible and easy to see under bright sunlight too.

Experience

Just like any power bank, the purpose of the SHARGE Starship Seer is to charge your devices, and it does exactly that. Now, in today’s time and age, where so many devices pack batteries more than 5000mAh under the hood, a 10,000mAh battery bank gives you adequate juice to charge up your phone 1-2 times.

But for everyday use, this powerbank is extremely ideal for most users who want to charge their phone, tablet and even accessories because SHARGE supports low-wattage charging, which not many power bank does.

But the real MVP of this power bank is that display because when you have information visible and data you can read immediately, it eliminates the need to play the guessing game. You see the remaining battery left, you know how much it will charge your device. When you connect the power bank to charge up, the estimated timing tells you how long it will take to charge the power bank to 100%. None of that “LED blinks” which gives you rough estimates, which then you realise it has less capacity than intended.

Now, in terms of devices utilizing the 35W – there aren’t many to begin with, Most phones we used to charge – iPhone 16, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 15 and so on – kept the Wattage to about 27-30W, but once it hit the 80% mark, you can see the wattage dropping as the graph plateaus – it’s nice to see that happening in real time.

I got about 2x worth the charge out of this powerbank for my iPhone 16 – where it charged the phone from 8%-100% the first time, leaving about 47% left, for me to charge the next time from 20% to about 90%.

But connect to a laptop that supports USB-PD via USB-C, you see this power bank shine bright. So, in my case, using it with the ROG Ally X and the ASUS Zenbook A14 worked well. Though you must take note that Windows is terrible in managing resources, so it’s best to charge when your laptop is on standby or when turned off. For low power, we charged our Sony Linkbuds Fit, Galaxy Ring and so on – which worked wonders.

I really appreciate the clock feature – especially for someone who loses track of time while working, and miss my lunch or dinner, it has served as a great tool and reminder. When I travel, it is my contingency alarm – the alarm beep isn’t as loud as it should be – but it helps me wake up to kick my day off. The alarm only works if you leave the display on, and if you shut it off, expect the power bank to not ring at all.

Conclusion

At RM 299 (or at the SRP of RM 399) – you might go, “This sure is an expensive power bank.” And, I’d say you are right – but here me out, would you get a cheaper power bank and sacrifice the safety aspect of your life or opt in for something that has quality and gives you absolute peace of mind? In fact, if you look at the market in general, a good quality cell-powered-powerbanks costs more than RM 200 (based on SRP).

With that in mind, SHARGE Starship Seer isn’t just a 10,000mAh powerbank that aims to be fun but also keeps everything in this compact profile with high-quality batteries, well well-tested circuit, which screams quality in every possible way. The fact that I use my powerbank when I travel, and now, I have something that doubles as an alarm clock.

On top of that, the ability to tell the wattage, battery percentage, time to charge up the powerbank and the device, and even indicate “heating up” (which is a by-product for fast charging) – not only is it a powerbank, it’s also a tool that does wonders. The SHARGE Starship Seer Powerbank redefines the definition of what a good powerbank really is.

For that, we are giving this power bank our Vesper Choice Award. I can’t wait to check out their other power banks very soon.
