There are times we stumble upon some bizarre tech gear that would make us go all, “Why does this exist?” and while we were doing the ASUS Fragrance Mouse review, we too felt like that. But after two weeks of using it, honestly, this is a funny gimmick that just works and will be the thing that keeps you calm while you work with your frustrating colleagues.
ASUS Fragrance Mouse Review
It definitely looks Real Cute

There’s no doubt that ASUS makes really cute products which we own personally, like the Marshmallow Keyboard, Pebble Mouse, to name a few. And the ASUS Fragrance Mouse MD101 joins the list – it’s pretty compact, I really love the ergonomical curvature on the non-existent tail end of the mouse, which gives a very nice and comfy palm grip. This mouse is easily one of the thoughtfully designed mice from the get-go.

On the left, you have an inward curvature for your thumb to rest easily. For lefties, it’s a shame that this mouse is specifically designed for right-handed mouse users. It comes in two different colours, and we have the Rose Clay, which is this very subtle pastel pink shade, which looks pleasant to the eyes, and a lot of users will love it. I sure do. It’s the right type of shade that could spruce up your desk setup in the right direction.
The Experience Using the Mouse

For those who work in offices or are studying, where having a low-noise switch is pretty much a requirement in more ways than one, you will be satisfied with how these mouse clicks. That’s not all – unlike some mushy silent switches, these have a nice click that will leave you satisfied, especially if you are all about the “feel”. ASUS rated these switches to last 10 million clicks.

Throughout my trip to Computex, the ASUS Fragrance Mouse did its job very well, there weren’t any particular issues I ran into with it. Connectivity is great – you can connect via Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless, which means using this mouse with two devices is very much possible. Most of the time, I resorted to the Bluetooth connection due to the limited USB Ports on my laptop – and as long as you don’t have any interference or multiple devices connected to the laptop, your connection is stable.

There’s no software control, so all the controls are done natively on the mouse itself. Right below the mouse, you’ll find the PTFE feets which gives a nice glide on most surfaces, the DPI switch, which specifically lets you choose 1200, 1600 and 2400. So, as a mouse, it’s pretty basic and gets the job done for those who want a mouse which isn’t going to give you too much trouble. But this isn’t just any mouse – it’s a Fragrance Mouse. So, let’s talk about that.
What’s Special: The Aromatherapy

I genuinely giggled when ASUS mentioned that users could add essential oils into the mouse to keep them calm. It is a great gimmick, and in a high-tension environment, I can see how this can be helpful in a comical sense. That said, filling up the mouse with essential oil is pretty easy. You just have to remove the battery cover, take out the tank, fill the tank up with Diluted Essential Oils with the included pipette, and you are done.

We did bring this mouse around, like on a plane, and so on: we can happily report that there were no cases of leaking or sudden stop at the bag-check. As long as you don’t fill it to the brim, you are good. After you do that, just turn it on and it starts working. ASUS claimed that the scent could last for a while. We noticed it lasted for about 2 weeks, until we had to refill it.

My biggest gripe with the container is how hard it can be to fill up because there’s no indication if it’s filled up without overflowing the container. Another thing is, you should not use concentrated Essential Oil because it will damage the container – so, do dilute it properly. Best would be getting diluted Essential Oils from places like Puras, Muji and the list goes on.

Conclusion

For RM 169, it works great as a good productivity-centric mouse with aromatherapy that keeps you at bay while working at the office. Safe to say that the idea is to keep you calm during the storm. It sure is a functional gimmick that people would have a good laugh or two over. The ASUS Fragrance Mouse gets our thumbs up for being a fun mouse.
