From a lifestyle standpoint, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Series has been the one to go for. And during our Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Hands-on session, we noticed very minor changes, but changes that are long overdue on the Flip. With that said, in this content we are going to share all about it.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Hands-On
Yep, that’s a big Cover Display (7 Generations Later)

Something I never thought happening was Samsung playing the catchup game with its smartphone innovation – and that’s exactly what happened with the Z Flip series. While others have added expansive displays to their cover display, it took 7 generations for Samsung to finally incorporate a 4.1” display to the cover. It does get added upgrades such as a 120Hz refresh rate and brightness that can hit up to 2600 peak nits brightness.

Compared to the 3.4” display which is a little constrained, however, you can still find this in the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE – It’s the Z Flip 6 but with FE and some minor changes.
Wider Main Display too

Once you flip it open, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a 6.9” Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display which is now as big as the Samsung Galaxy S25. But that’s not all, the Flip display has gotten wider, which is a good thing, especially if you are not a fan of the narrow display dimension. We wanted to compare it beside our Xiaomi Mix Flip but we couldn’t, due to NDA restrictions. Otherwise, expect the display to house a 120Hz refresh rate, offering really good peak nit brightness and such.

Oh, and one thing worth highlighting is the crease in the middle of the display, which is now almost non-existent, and that’s a good thing. And this has something to do with the newer hinge too – the Armor FlexHinge with water droplet design and a multi-rail structure.
Bigger Capacity Battery

Getting a battery bump from 4000mAh on the Z Flip 6 to 4300mAh on the Z Flip 7 – is a step in the right direction but it’s not big enough. Samsung’s justification for it is: with good software optimization and efficient hardware, you can do a lot of things with the 4300mAh battery. They are not wrong because Samsung’s software has improved so much for one, they do have decent hardware but what they didn’t factor in is the difference in usage with different users.
So, this is something we will have to test further and speaking of hardware, one of the biggest changes and a lot of the Snapdragon fanatics would lose their mind over it is…
…It’s Powered by… Exynos(?)

Yes, it’s powered by the Exynos 2500 – and this might seem like a huge deal breaker to many, but honestly, it’s not. The Exynos 2400 was pretty good last year and our favourite device, the S24 FE ran the 2400e, which is a “lighter” version, which still put up a great show. So, even if it’s an Exynos processor, I do have high hopes for the 2500. Apart from that, the Vapor Chamber cooling system is exactly the same as last year.
Performance-wise, stay tuned because we will share it when we review it.
As for the Rest
There are some changes, which you can check out below:
- Software-wise, you are looking at OneUI 7 with the same AI centric features we have seen before.
- It still uses the same camera setup as last year, however, you now get 10-bit video recording capabilities
- The phone now gets really thin bezels, uses a ultra high density circuit board to keep the components jam packed in the phone while retaining its thinness, and of course, you have refined components.
While I am happy that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 gets the right type of improvements, I am concerned about how consumers will perceive the phone – because let’s face it, it is not going to be cheap and that might hold a lot of users back – and while you can opt in for the Fan Edition Z Flip 7 – the experience might not be the same.

With that said, we just have to wait and see but from what I see, I feel like they are late to the game and will have a tough time playing a catch up game with the other Flip, especially with the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 which will come to Malaysia as well.
