Nikon ZR is their first video-centric camera, which brings RED Experience into this compact yet powerful body. Under the hood, it houses the same 24.5MP partially stacked sensor as the Nikon Z6III and retains the Z mount, which gives you access to all the Nikon lenses to shoot with. Since it is a video-centric camera, you will miss out on a mechanical shutter, which is acceptable for a niche camera like this. It does have 5-axis Vibration Reduction for handheld shooting.

Video-wise: filming with this camera is going to be a real treat because it can do 12-bit RAW internal recording, and up to 6K/59.94p, which is crazy. You get access to ProRES RAW, R3D NE, Log3G10, REDWideGamut – which you can record at its dual-base ISO 800 and 6400, combined with  15+ stop dynamic range. There is support for LUTs too, with up to 12 custom LUTs that can be loaded into the camera.

Coming in at just 630 grams, this is possibly the lightest camera with a RED logo on it (unless you count the cursed smartphone they made a long time ago). The battery-powered device gives you 95 minutes of run time, and by connecting a USB-C PD, you can get up to 125 minutes. The camera gets a Nikon EXPEED 7 processor for its snappy AF, and with the AI tech they introduced, it’ll be capable when it comes to deep-learning technology.

Nikon broke the industry crippling display dimension on a camera by going for a vari-angle 4-inch display, with 3070k-dot resolution, and this is perfectly capable of hitting DCI-P3 colours. Another thing worth noting is the new microphone setup in this camera, and to be able to do a 32-bit float within the camera is one we have not seen in a camera of this calibre in a while, or at all. You can choose between five pickup patterns, which is great.

At the time of writing, Nikon Malaysia and the authorised stores have opened up a pre-order for three configurations: RM 9,688 for the Body, RM 12,408 with the 24-70mm f/4 S Lens and RM 13,318 with the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 lens.
